So I’ve just had EE broadband installed and I have the EE app. As far as I can tell I have the app connected to my router.
How do I connect to the EE/BT WiFi hotspots I come across in public? Do I automatically connect? Do I select the hotspot when I find them and the phone then automatically connects?

You connect to the "EE WiFi" SSID as & when you see it. If you are an New EE BB user you'll be asked to login to your EE ID a/c to be able to use it free. Otherwise you can use it if you pay for it up front.
It has nowt in particular to do with your EE app other than having to login to EE WiFi with your EE ID. I find my O2 mobile will auto log me into it when I'm in range of 1.

@MrKnighton you can find out more about the service from their website.
https://ee-wifi.ee.co.uk/public/ee/index.htm
You will need to log in each time you want to use the service, using your EE details.
Ignore the cost bit, as a broadband user you should get it for free.

Hi @MrKnighton
Don't forget to use a VPN as there are many spoof access points around.
Thanks

Thanks but I’m a bit confused here, which EE details do I use to log in with?
The same ones I use to log in to the EE app with?

@MrKnighton I am sure you will soon get the hang of it if you use it regularly, but I suspect these days most people just use their 4/5G data when not at home.
There are some more detailed steps in the Help pages from my earlier link.
First, connect to the EE WiFi network.
A EE WiFi SSID (network name) will appear in your device's available wireless networks list when you're in range of a hotspot. You can find your nearest hotspot here.
On your mobile device:
On your desktop: click the wireless icon at the bottom right of the screen and select EE WiFi from the drop-down menu.
Secondly, once connected to the EE WiFi network, you're ready to login to your closest EE WiFi hotspot and start using the internet. To login to a hotspot:
If you're an existing customer with an access account click the 'log in now' button and you'll be presented with 4 options in the drop down menu.
If you're not already one of these customers, you have the option to purchase one of our voucher products.
You are now online and can start browsing.
On desktop or tablet devices, a new web browser window may open confirming you're connected. Minimise, rather than close, the web browser window - now you're ready to browse the internet.

I do usually rely on my 5G but I spend a lot of time on the motorway and the signal can be pretty patchy at the Services but most seem to offer EE WiFi.
Plus I’m often in shopping centres with the Mrs where mobile signals are equally unreliable sometimes and when presented with about 15 different shops WiFis I’d rather use the one I’m kind of paying for.

@MrKnighton I used to use the service a lot when I was travelling, and it was invaluable in those circumstances.
Hope it works well for you.
