Upload speeds

Hi all

I have FTTC whilst desperately waiting for FTTP being built in my area 'in the next 12 months'.

Over Christmas I had numerous dropouts and my line (assumedly by DLM) was restricted and I lost a lot of my down and upload speeds. There was no expalnation for the dropouts and no fault found. The download speed has recovered but my upload is stuck at 3.6, which is unusable and causing issues. I was at 6.9 for over a year and according to my VDSL stats the line is capable of 7.1. I use a Draytek Vigor 130 into an Asus router.

According to the Draytek, my far SNR is 9db, which I assume is limited my upload sync.

Can this be fixed with a line reset? EE techs on the phone state my speed is within the guarantee for my line, but as I had almost double that speed until the dropouts I would really like it back.

Thanks

Welcome to EE's Home Broadband Forum.

If you would like help with your BB speed or connection issues, please would you carry out the following steps for starters, which will enable us to diagnose the problem and advise you further. Do not restart your router to do these tests:

1. Post your full router stats:

  • For a SmartHub: login and go to Advanced Settings > Technical Log > Information. Obscure your names & any numbers in the BB Username & also the SSIDs. Also post the Home > Status page.
  • For a BrightBox: login and go to Advanced Settings > System > DSL Status. Also post 'System Uptime' from top of System Log page.
  • For other routers: login to it according to the label on it as the admin user & navigate looking for its router/connection statistics.

Full router stats are key to any speed & connection issues.

2. Try a speedtest, preferably wired using an Ethernet cable supplied with the router, here http://www.thinkbroadband.com/speedtest.html . Click on the "Results Page" button at the bottom of the graph you first see and then copy to here just the "Link to this result:" link that you see below the next main graph.

3. What does BT Wholesale Broadband Availability Checker estimate for your phone number? Post just the whole table and the line above it, blanking out your phone number. If it doesn't recognise your phone number or you don't have one, use the Address Checker, not the Postcode Checker.

I do not have a phone line so can't check the phone line stats on the BT Wholesale checker.

Locate the hidden test socket that is revealed when you remove the bottom half of the split faceplate (2 screws or press tabs) of your master socket. Only do this if you have a split faceplate. Do you have any extension sockets in the home even if unused? Are there any wires connected to back of faceplate of master socket?

Reboot the router & plug it into the test socket using a DSL dangly micro-filter. Post the full router stats & System Uptime when plugged into test socket.

Is the issue any better?

Hi

I have a Master Socket 5C, so have done as advised. No wires connect to back of the faceplate and there are no extensions in the house nor any phone plugged into the Master socket.

Stats after reboot with modem connected directly to the Master socket with a filter. Second one shows up time of 2 minutes. No change to sync rates.

@JMW1970 Please be careful what you post up on the Forum, displaying your address is just not good best to blank or hide the details! The speed test below is also very good and will give you a lot off detail on both the up/down speeds and what is going one with both.

Hi Jim

Thanks for the tip, but I just double checked and my address is not listed on the BT check I posted. It just said ‘address’ and the town I live in.

Hi @JMW1970

I believed a house number was showing and I removed this to be safe, if you can add this again and remove the first line above the box so no details are showing this would be great. If this was not your address details, I am sorry you can upload this again 🙂

Edit: I have added this image back now as no address details were showing and apologise for any confusion.

Leanne.
