Just a heads up to anyone like me who has been transferred from BT to EE Broadband. I recently renewed my contract with BT and in the process was offered a new deal with EE. I didn't think much about this until I received a new router through the post. I thought naively, that it would be a clone of my previous BT Smart Hub 2. Its not and If you host your own VPN like me , you may experience some difficulties with the EE router. It appears that unlike the BT router, the EE one does not treat a DMZ port the same. It appears to block certain port traffic even in DMZ mode. This of course only matters if like me you are remotely accessing a home network. My VPN is facilitated by a Draytek router connected to the Smart Hub and for several years I have used two types of VPN, SSL & L2TP ipsec. With the EE hub, the SSL worked but the L2TP needed port forwarding to be enabled as well. (1701. 4500,500). The other thing that EE could do with addressing is the lack of a Save/Restore settings facility which is available with the BT Hub. Very useful if you need to change from default settings as I have!

@DHaviator Looks like you have got it all pretty well sussed out now, if you do not like the new EE Router then just connect the BT Smarthub2 back on the service, don't keep changing back and forth especially if you have a landline on the DV.

FYI: The earlier EE Smart Hub (2023) (Model SH20A) is equivalent to the BT SH2. Like the SH2 it only has a 1 Gig WAN & WiFi5 unlike the EE SH+.

You are absolutely correct, the BT hub still works, but for compatibility i thought i would change. I am hoping that EE might take note and at least add a settings Save/Restore facility! I guess they are just aiming at keeping things simple. They have an 'Advanced Settings' option, but its just not as advanced as it used to be!

@DHaviator You can only but dream, lot's off missing oops from one to the other, some day maybe but for sure don't count on it!
