Thinking of switching to an altnet ISP and transferring phone to a VOIP service

I'm thinking about switching to a new ISP who doesn't use OpenReach and what I would do is get that installed and after a few days , if I'm happy, get my landline transferred to a VOIP service which I understand would terminate my contract with EE.

Do I need to contact EE at this point or just let it happen and presumably pay for the 30days notice I didn't give?

@Timbo45 I would just let it all happen voip wise but move it first before any altnet involvement so you are 100% sure that the voip provider has it and is dealing with the transfer, and take any penalty that EE hit you with, once you altnet has you completely up and running then deal with the EE Side for there BB shutdown.

@Timbo45   whilst that used to be the way for PSTN, if you have moved to Digital Voice I believe Broadband and Digital Voice are on separate contracts. So if you move the Voice you will still have Broadband so would need to contact EE to cancel it.

Do you have access to an Altnet and do you have a thought about a Voip provider?

If your Broadband and Digital Home Phone are currently with EE you could port the number out at any time to a VOIP provider, as Digital Home Phone is just on a rolling monthly contract.

I would do this first, then when it has been ported to the VOIP provider place your Broadband order with the Altnet.

Chances are the One Touch Switch process would terminate the landline if you didn't port it out first and you would struggle then to be able to get the number back.
