Smart Hub plus with Yale Home Alarm Hub

Can anybody help me? I've recently purchased a Yale Home alarm system, when I came to install it I fell at the first hurdle, (connect the alarm hub to the router via the ethernet cable provided, switch on and wait 30s for the green light),  NO GREEN LIGHT. I contacted Yale they said you need DNS ports 5222 and 8765 open on your router, I called EE CS they said its nothing we can help you with, the router is set up for plug n play, I went back to Yale they said, maybe a fault with the alarm hub, take it back to Costco where I purchased it from. After more research I tried EE CS one more time (they were really helpful) and they suggested trying the Yale hub on a friends router, I want next door and plugged the Yale hub into there Virgin router, within 10sec a green light came on. I went back to EE CS, explained all this again and was told maybe it my EE router. So new router posted out to me with great expectations, swapped it over and you've guessed it same as before. I've been back to Yale they asked me to go back to EE and ask for a firmware update for the router, back to EE they told me to switch the router off for 4 hours, I've done that, its now back on with no joy and I'm now no further forward. Please Help. One more thing, these alarm systems are also sold in the EE online shop and don't seem to be compatible with the EE router.

Whilst it doesn't help identify what the problem was, I've a suspicion sticking a cheap Ethernet switch between the Yale and EE hubs may also have done the trick.

There is little reason why an Ethernet-cabled device should ever be incompatible with a Smart Hub Plus, so it would be a good one to get to the bottom of.

Hi mate. Sorry for the late reply. Unfortunately the smart hub has been returned to EE so I can’t help you with the serial number.

A quick update on what has happened.
I receved the BT smart hub (from the EE customer support team), that has now been changed over, the Yale hub plugged in, I got the green light within 10 seconds, the alarm system in now up and running without any issues.
so as far as I’m aware there is still an issue with the EE smart hub+ to the Yale hub.
I hope this helps anybody with similar issues.
Thanks for all the reply’s  Russ.

Hi Ru55,

I have been having a nightmare all day back and forth with EE and Yale both telling me it's the other's fault. To get this straight, did you order another EE smarthub+ or was it a different router?

Oh so you got a BT smart hub replacement?

@Jordybanks99   Do you have a spare ethernet switch you could put inbetween the hun and the yale?

The hub seems to struggle at times with older devices, it may be older cables or something else, but a switch has helped some.

Hi Jordybanks.  Sorry for the late reply.  Yes I had the same issue each one blaming the other. In the end I had an engineer come out to my home to see what he could do, the issue seems to be the EE smart hub+, when you connect the Yale hub and the EE hub together the EEhub doesn't recognise that anything is plugged into it, (yes I did try other ethernet cables) when I went next door and plugged the same Yale hub into there Virgin hub it recognised t straight away. the engineer told me to ask customer support to send a BT hub out which they did, I plugged them together and it worked straight away. . So in my humble opinion it's the EEsmarthub+ that's at fault. Thanks Russ

Just one other thing EE did send a replacement EESmarthub out first before they sent the BT hub,and the engineer tried another EE smart hub from his van,  so to be clear that's 3 EE smart hubs that didn't work and a Virgin and a BT that did work

Russ

no problem. exact same issue and I've got an engineer out today so ill pass all of this on. Thanks Russ.

Would you both be able to confirm which type of Ethernet cable you are using to connect the Yale Hub to the EE Smart Hub? e.g. Is it Cat 5e / 6? Have you tried the cable supplied with the EE Smart Hub?
