Hi all, new to the forum but not to ee been with them for years with phones

Took the plunge and had their broadband switched on yesterday - everything ok apart from won’t connect to my hikvision CCTV

Loads of posts but I’m not that tech savvy so don’t really get it - in simple terms the new smart hub plus doesn’t do DDNS so won’t let me connect my cctv - what should I do??

thanks in advance 🙂

@sgbeek Did your previous hub connect via it's ddns service for you cctv unit? who were you with and what router did you use. The router from EE what model is it that you have been supplied with? Labels are on the packaging box or the router itself? What service if you know do you have from EE.

Hi thanks for replying, was with sky previously with sky q router and cctv worked ok - don’t know if used dens as don’t really get it?

ee provided smart hub plus router on their 67 mbs plan or something like that

@sgbeek When you first set up the CCTV system, did you do it all yourself, or did you have a company come set it all up and install it for you, when and if so then they may have done so, but normally they require you to take a package that involves setting up to connect to DDNS server service, the SKY router was/is capable of doing so, i know as came from sky in march this year to EE, so know how there routers work. If you post some details of your Hikvision system will take a look at what is involved, DDNS is really for remote viewing over the internet from anywhere, it allows the system to give you access via your mobile so you can always look at the CCTV from anywhere over the internet connection.

I had a company set it up for me - I’ve tried contacting them but had no reply as yet

i don’t have a screen in the house I’ve always accessed it through the hikvision app on my phone, don’t know what ddns does but obs sky did it and ee don’t, what sort of info do you need?

@sgbeek  I have just had a look at the setup video, there is no mention of using DDNS.

However I think the Sky router uses different IP range to the EE router, so you are likely going to have to tweak some settings as you should be able to get local pics, a screen would be easier to check with.

@Mustrum : DDNS is involved here:

To set up remote viewing, https://www.securitywholesalers.com.au/faq-items/can-use-hik-connect-set-remote-viewing/

altho' I can't tell from reading:

Hik-Connect is a new service introduced by Hikvision which integrates the dynamic domain name service (HiDDNS) along with alarm push notification service. It provides an easy way for devices to connect to the Internet.

whether this is all part of their own kit/apps & does not require the router to provide DDNS support. It all looks like a router itself!

@sgbeek : Do you require remote viewing of your  NVR? It's only if you do that you would need DDNS.

From the initial setup video, DDNS is not used, but it shows a local screen.

Do you have the username and password for the CCTV system, and DDNS service? If not your first step is to get the company who installed it back in.
