Smart Hub Plus SH31B firmware observations

Moving over from BT to EE and have had one of the new Smart Hub Plus routers sent to me.
Swamped the BT router out for the new EE one. Using as primary routet only because of Digital Voice/ EE equivalent  etc.

Some observations with the latest firmware (r1.21.0-R-910349-PROD-83002);

Prior to it updating itself with latest firmware, I saw Dynamic DDNS option under Advanced, Broadband. That is now gone.

I have WIFI/DHCP server turned off because I have a secondary ASUS router doing the real work.  Every time the firmware updates, it turns WIFI / DHCP back on. This needs to be fixed as I decided how I want it setup, not EE.

Under Phone and Contacts, you can import a VCF file from a previous hub, but there is NO option to export your contacts. So effectively if you hub is replaced for whatever reason, you loose any contacts you have added to phones. This is another flaw that needs to be fixed in the firmware.

The technical log hardly has any details in it. I know my the hub went down overnight for yet another firmware update (because of WIFI/DHCP issue mentioned above).  However there is nothing in the log to mention this. In fact is just has the 5 entries from when I powered it off/back on the previous day.  It's set on DEBUG/ALL so there should be a ton of info. So again looking like another flaw in the firmware.

And why is it so slow to move around the settings!

The old BT Smart Hub 2 is far better than this EE Smart Hub which should of been a step up.

I am probably whinging to the wrong crowd, as I doubt anyone of the EE Technical side would see this.

I note that Keep your saved Digital Home Phone contacts | Home Phone | Help refers to Exporting contacts which is an option that is not available. This pages needs to be uopdated.

Can we expect this to be fixed? Is there anyone from EE who can comment?

Hi @cerf-volant, thanks for taking the time to highlight this.
I can certainly get this fed back, but can I please confirm if it's the Smart Hub Plus you're using too?

Also what exactly do you see in your Hub Manager when following the instructions listed in the help article?
Peter

@cerf-volant Page does not need updated, the older routers of the BT ilke have import/export function.

The New EE only have the import function, wither missed, oops or whatever, the models are like that and have always been.

Correct Factory reboot, or replacement router does lead to conflict with the DV phone side, that anything added is toast...

Thnak you for getting back so quickly. I hope these are the details you are after:

Product code: SH31B

Firmware version: r2.68.16-R-1296172-PROD-83002

GUI version: 2.36.4

The only option I have under Home > Phone > Contacts is:

Phone Contacts

mport

Import phone contact data from a file (e.g. one you export from another Hub)

Phone contacts file:

Browse    Import

As I read it, it states:

This article has the steps to backup your Digital Home Phone contacts and upload them to a new EE Hub, so you don’t lose any of your saved contacts.

Assuming I understand correctly, I think this would be clearer if it said:

This article has the steps to backup your Digital Home Phone contacts on a BT Hub and upload them to a new EE Hub, so you don’t lose any of your saved contacts.

This might avoid any confusion.

@cerf-volant Correct, then you have all the BT user's that don't grab the contact list before, and people that think it's all stored on the phone, and EE who don't wish to draw the point that they have only half done it, import with no export, never ending saga.

And I can confirm on 7th August, still no export option for contacts.
I am experiencing a wifi signal drop issue with EE router and their extenders. An engineer visited and swapped in another SmartHub Plus router. (He recommended buying a third party router!). The problem returned. I had to reload an old list of contacts from my old reliable BT router.
I complained further and was sent a BT router but this was not compatible with the EE wifi extender units. Support unable to send out BT wifi extenders because I'm now an EE customer.
I was then send the latest SH32B router which runs the same firmware referenced above ...83002.
Note both EE routers have an issue with ethernet connections. On wake up there is a log of between 20 and 30 seconds. Again, a regressive error recently introduced. Same issue with contacts.
BT/EE clearly are not a company focused on quality products but extracting profit from their customers. A hierarchy of bean counters.

@JohnJamesRooney The Ethernet 20-30second delay has been since day one on the Router, switch in between fixes that out, but it is alleged to be fixed in a far distant FW yet to be released as reported by a EE Person on the Forum, No third party routers if you require to have the EE DV system, that's a NO NO end off, and yes EE Router depending on the model is EE smart wireless so best stick with the matching devices less hassle!
