Smart Hub 7 Pro — port forwarding not working

rushsnacks

Ports closed externally despite a valid mapping.

Posting here as I understand this is a known issue and the place it gets escalated to engineers.

Setup: EE FTTP, Smart Hub 7 Pro. (Mesh system in AP mode behind it; the hub is the sole router.)

Problem: Port forwarding doesn't work. Forwarded ports stay closed from outside even when a valid mapping is present on the hub. Confirmed closed externally with an independent port checker.

What I've already ruled out at my end:

- Not CGNAT — I have a genuine public IPv4 address.
- No double-NAT — the hub is the only router on the line.
- The target device has a reserved local IP.
- The mapping shows on the hub, but the firewall isn't passing inbound traffic to it.

So it's not a configuration error my side. I gather from other threads here that EE engineers have acknowledged this as a firmware bug and said it'll be fixed in a firmware update.

Could a moderator please:

- confirm the current fix status / firmware timeline,
- check whether a fixed firmware is available for the 7 Pro and have it pushed to my hub,
- and escalate if needed.

My current firmware version: r4.28.1-R-1882725-PROD-1

Happy to discuss account by private message if a moderator needs my info. Thanks.

@rushsnacks And you are also the first to post up that FW for a 7 Pro Hub so you are aware! Can you post the app version up when you get time? You will also need to get EE to turn PM on for yourself!

Cheers Jim.

App version: GUI 3.14.5.

Separately — any idea how I get private messaging switched on for my account? There's no Private Messenger tab in my settings, so I'm guessing it's gated. Happy to ask wherever's the right place if you can point me at it.

Thanks for keeping the firmware list going.

🙂

@rushsnacks PM will be required by EE to switch it on for you if they wish to contact by that method, you are just to new to the Forum to get the privaledge but if you can do it then right click your profile top right and go here ""My settings : Preferences""

You may wish to capture and post your settings up for the port forwarding, not aware of anyone having issues at all, Pro has been out now since Sept 2024 time will do a search Forum wise, and you need to do the call to EE CS, the Forum is Public and not EE personnel....

EE Smarthub 7 Pro latest FW update below.

FW: r4.28.1-R-1882725-PROD-1 and the gui is at App Version is 3.14.5 31/05/2026

Righto, thanks Jim.

Yup, brand new today. Only had EE for a month or so now and just getting round to ironing some things out. No PM options in settings anywhere so hopefully someone will reach out regarding the above.

You understand wrongly! This is a peer user discussion group. It is not the correct platform to get issues escalated to EE & it is not CS to whom you need call to report the issue.

Let's see your Port Forwarding setting & we may be able to advise you further.

You may have to notch up a few posts before you may use PMs. Can you get to Private Messages & compose a msg?

If you think I helped please feel free to hit the "Thumbs Up" button below.

Seems like EE is having an issue pushing firmware updates to older hubs.

To be honest, I never believed their claim that a particular firmware update was only for new customers. From a software development point of view, that doesn't make much sense. Any customer-specific configuration would be handled on their end, not by distributing different firmware versions on the exact same hardware.

@ILikeCoffee Bet your not the only one that has that belief but EE is EE, they must have had something that held it back, no doubt it's all gelling together now, from seeing the 6 Plus and now the 7 Pro, just need the 7 Plus to join the party and we have the full set!

@rushsnacks - did you manage to sort this out? Port forwarding is working OK on my Pro. Are there any UPnP rules listed on your port forwarding page?

What service/machine are you trying to forward traffic to and what operating system is it running? If it's Windows, have you checked that the network connection has not reverted to 'public' as suggested by @JimM11 ?

Thanks bob. No, still not sorted.

I've ruled my own setup out fairly thoroughly: no UPnP rules in play (disabled it and tested with it off), and the target device isn't Windows, so the network-profile angle doesn't apply.

The clincher: I forwarded a TCP port to a plain listener on a completely separate device, firewall off — still closed externally on canyouseeme. So it's not the device, not a service, and not a config error; the hub won't pass inbound forwarding to anything. Genuine public IP too, not CGNAT.

Given yours works, what firmware's your Pro on? Mine's r4.28.1-R-1882725-PROD-1 (GUI 3.14.5). If you're forwarding fine on the same build, that may point to my unit being in a bad state rather than a firmware issue.

Many thanks for taking an interest. 👍
