Send emails from btinternet.com account when using third party broadband

I switched broadband provider to Voneus in April 2025. I still have an account with EE (and am under contract until late 2026). I aim to use my btinternet.com email account until my contract with EE expires.

If I try to send emails from my btinternet.com account whilst connected to Voneus broadband, I get various error messages:

Unable to verify account name or password.

Can't connect to the account : "my btinternet email address". Enter the password for user "my btinternet email address".

My outgoing SMTP settings are:

Outgoing Mail Server: mail.btinternet.com

Port: 465

SSL encryption: Enabled

Authentication: Password

When I connect using my existing EE router, I can send emails from btinternet.com without any problems.

I can still access my email via webmail (on a browser).

Can anybody offer me any advice? Many thanks.

@MartinEllis No problem just keep an eye on the operation between ISP's when you check both your EE / Voneus connections!👍

@JimM11  I thought it was too good to be true! Whilst it my btinternet.com account was working last night, it's reverted to its old tricks today.

What did you mean by advising me to keep an eye on the operation between ISPs when I check both my EE/Voneus connections? I'm not sure I follow you. Can you explain please?

@JimM11  I'm really confused now. Since posting my reply to you a couple of minutes ago, the Outgoing Mail Server now seems to be working. I've not done anything in the meantime. Could this be a broadband issue?

Unlikely! More like an email server issue. They do play up but rarely.

@MartinEllis The problem i have is understanding what you have broadband and fibre wise and also with two ISP's, if the TLS security is working it more than likely would be fine with both and as you are a fruit flavoured user, security is more important to one than the other. Think a while ago BT where upping the securities to there e-mail server's but going to say that was a good 18 months ago from memory! Anything regarding such would be best found now on the BT e-mail Forum regarding details!

@JimM11 I have a contract with Voneus for full fibre 500Mbps broadband. This involves fibre into my property.

I also have an existing contract for broadband with EE (which expires towards the end of 2026) which they call Fibre 36. This involves fibre to the nearest cabinet and then a copper line into my property. We live in a rural area and EE haven't yet stated when they'll be able to provide full fibre to our property.

Not sure whether this helps but I'll also follow up on your advice to pursue this further on BT's email forum.

What does BT Wholesale Broadband Availability Checker estimate for your phone number? Post the whole table and the line above it, blanking out your phone number. If it doesn't recognise your phone number or you don't have one, use the Address Checker.

@XRaySpeX I had to use the address checker but the result is as below. I hope this helps. 👍

No Full Fibre there yet. Look out for Featured Product WBC FTTP.

What does the Openreach Fibre Checker say about your address?

I've tried clicking on the link for Openreach Fibre Checker but I get the following message:
