S4 Deco with EE Router

Hi all,

I have an S2 Deco Network setup and working as a router.

My hardline from my office is into the EE Router which is attached to the main Deco via Ethernet.

The EE router is also currently in DHCP server mode as I didn't change that when I setup my mesh the first time.

I have noticed that I drop ~200mbps connected to the S4 Ethernet port as apposed to full line speed connected to the EE router. The fibre line is currently coming into the EE router and then out to the Deco.

I don't want to drop speed but I do want my S4 to handle everything router related.
This is due to a network issue where my PC could not see my Wireless Printer.

Any advice is appreciated on how to get this setup.

Thanks. The S4 can operate in Access Point mode (only the main works in router mode as I am sure you know, so all Satellite Decos run as Access Points already). So that'd let my Router do the IP assigning, therefore putting all wireless and wired devices in the same range.

Not against that, just cannot test that today!

@iEddiez You may be correct, but you need to look at the S4 Documentation, AP mode may have lots of other restrictions applied to it!

@iEddiez   your main problem is the spec of the Deco, it is only WiFi5, so max 450Mbps on WiFi and LAN ports throughput not really upto 1Gbps that the EE router can handle.

Maybe time to upgrade the Deco, ignore the EE router and connect direct to the ONT.

Thanks for your help. I've had it literally a month. I'm not going to upgrade already. Speeds are OK for the house usage. Just don't like the idea of missing some Mbps to my PC.

@iEddiez  do you have digital voice?

If not set the Deco up in PPOE mode and connect direct to the ONT.

I don't think I do.

Can you not do PPOE mode without Digital Voice?

@iEddiez   yes you can. You need the EE Hub if you have DV, but as you don;t then you should be better off without it, even if the spec if the Deco is lower than the EE Hub. The Mesh and other facilities should be better for you.

Thanks for Your advice

I’ll look into that over the weekend and as I understand it with without digital voice that mode will work on my Deco

@iEddiez   The settings are relativley simple, and EE even have a handy Help Page - Full Fibre settings - so just the username to set up, password if the router needs it, no VLAN setting.
