S4 Deco with EE Router

Hi all,

I have an S2 Deco Network setup and working as a router.

My hardline from my office is into the EE Router which is attached to the main Deco via Ethernet.

The EE router is also currently in DHCP server mode as I didn't change that when I setup my mesh the first time.

I have noticed that I drop ~200mbps connected to the S4 Ethernet port as apposed to full line speed connected to the EE router. The fibre line is currently coming into the EE router and then out to the Deco.

I don't want to drop speed but I do want my S4 to handle everything router related.
This is due to a network issue where my PC could not see my Wireless Printer.

Any advice is appreciated on how to get this setup.

@iEddiez Why do you have the EE Router connected?

Glorified switcher tbh.

I have multiple Wired connections and I’m using the Router to achieve that at present.

@iEddiez OK, EE Router is primary, Wan port of that connects to the ONT modem.

Deco S4 Mesh unit Main one connected from one of the Deco Lan ports, to the Lan port of the EE Router.

If you are Lan speed testing, connect PC Lan to EE then test, next connect Lan port of PC to Deco and test. If you have setup Deco in Router mode, you may have a slight drop test wise, but you need to send up Pics, the units are not the same, S4 is older tech than the possibly what the EE may be. Need to say what EE Router you have and what service speed also on the FF package.

Thanks for your reply.
Your assumptions are correct.

I can run some speed tests over the weekend.
For now though;
Package: Essentials: Full Fibre Gigabit w/ Smart Hub Plus
Mesh: https://www.tp-link.com/uk/home-networking/deco/deco-s4/

@iEddiez No assumptions made, been doing this for far too long, look at your Deco S4 documentation to what is the best way for operation of your mesh system, nothing you have done is wrong connection wise, just got to watch out what you have in the printer wise side, have the same issue myself, printer on the EE side, but just drop to whatever needed to print.

Thanks.
I certainly want my Mesh to control the IP. As the Printer connects to Mesh, it's my PC that's the outlier and not on the same range.

@iEddiez And that's the problem with having two router's like you have!

So, I know I'd need to disable the DHCP on my EE router but then my Mesh can't see my router...
Again, I'll run some tests over the weekend.

@iEddiez You need to look at the operation mode of the Deco S4 mesh setup, router operation may not be the correct mode but only you know how you wish your network to operate.
