Hi , looking at joing EE with a 900mb broad band deal.

I need to know if i can put the router supplied into modem only mode and use the router i currently have?

Also if i have a land line via IP can i still use the modem in modem only mode?

and auto-modded again!

I tried to post a step by step guide to @juiceof2limes helpful guide as it would apply to newer Asus routers but EE clearly don't want you to know! "Is conpiracy" as Mourhino would say!

The essentials were -

- newer Asus routers default subnet mask starts in the range 192.168.50.x , so won't conflict with the EE Hub range starting with 192.168.1.x , so need to change the range on the EE hub in @juiceof2limes guide

- be patient, everything requires saving and rebooting in each router. In particular the EE hub needs a good 7-8 mins to reboot and recognise the new settings/transferring the WAN to the Asus

Thanks to all for their help

@bwj1 Speed test push so little data about, they are more a guidance to what is going on, sustained transfer is always dependant on the giving end to the receiving end, but that aside. Device that you have your mobile, its all about how good it is at getting the speed test done, the wifi chipset, the processor in the mobile, how fast the memory is etc, and it is probably a wifi6 (AX) 2 x 2 device, so that is why you get such a good speed, your laptop has all the same to consider, but from your speed posted it is probably a wifi5 (AC) 2 x 2 device, theory is 866mb/s, but average is 70% of the theory, so around the 600mb/s transfer speed. Hope that gives you an insight to the first part of the question

The guarantee is to the EE Router, speed wise, NOT the final device....

@juiceof2limes : It wasn't possible with an copper landline cuz it hosted the BB but now with DV it is.

..and as things are never easy BT are refusing to port my old landline number to their sister company EE because BT claim there is a home emergency pendant linked to the old number which has never been the case

... so another hour on the phone to customer service. Nothing is easy is it?

As said as soon as I can I'll revert to another Voice provider and ditch the EE hub

@JimM11

help much appreciated

laptop wifi card is Killer(R) Wi-Fi 6 AX1650x 160MHz Wireless Network Adapter (200NGW) so I'm thinking there is some latency somewhere in the network between router and laptop .. anyway I'll dig around and maybe post this as a seperate topic if it helps others?

I have however gone through all the steps of

- resest netsh etc, release/renew ipconfig

- turning it on and off again

- shouting at it

- throwing the laptop out of the window

@XRaySpeXhi I'm not sure it contributes much to helping anyone or this topic, but I tried posting a full guide as to how to link new Asus router to EE hub which was repeatedly modded, despite taking out HTML, reference to the other company linked to EE and what you might find of a similar nature in their forum etc etc  .. was just trying to help others in the same boat but frustrated!

@bwj1 You may have to do a wifi analyzer to see that the EE Router has opened up a 160 channel in it's 5Ghz Frequency, know that my EE Smarthub+ on Channel 100 does, but my Asus XT8's will NOT, but until my fttp install early Nov not bothered yet, going to keep the EE front end just now see how it settles on full fibre, then once i know it's ok park it back in it's box.

With the spec you mention on the killer, it should be a lot faster that's for sure, so i would say its acting like a 80Mhz wide channel and giving you the restricted speed. Good luck tracking it down...👍👌

@bwj1 Typical 5Ghz of what you would expect to see for a wide channel at least Router wise. 160 is EE, 80 is Asus.

Typical speed etc on win nic properties although mine is wifi 5 160 wide.
