I am really annoyed with the same situation,I am in the UK and I paid for 3 years of a VPN about 6 months ago now and since then I’ve also changed to EE for my broadband and ever since I did I have had so many problems but they always tell me they don’t interfere with a VPN,the connection every time I go on my iPhone or iPad (which have a mobile vpn) well it basically doesn't happen unless I turn off the VPN and then ‘hey presto’ straight away!
I'm extremely annoyed by this and I’m also annoyed by the fact that you haven’t even had a reply from them here,it’s disgusting!
So I’m now unsure wether to lose 2 1/2 years of upfront payments for the vpn or cancel with EE or just continue to be as angry as I am,I’m housebound due to disability so it’s kind of a life line and the world is run on the internet now,so I do hope you have found a solution or at least had a response from them.
Best of luck to you 👍

I spent over an hour on the phone with EE technical support yesterday. They said that some VPNs just don't work with EE. They couldn't explain why it works on my phone but not on my laptop. They went through all of my details on their end and suggested different things for me to try my end. Even after uninstalling the VPN, my internet still wouln't work, so I had to factory reset my device again. The lady did actually tell me that they don't support any VPNs and it's kind of just luck if they do or not. Basically, I will be using DuckDuckGo because it has a built in VPN and I can't be bothered to keep resetting my laptop 😂.
So yeah, some may work and some may not. EE have no way of verifying or knowing which will or won't. Kind of annoying, but not the end of the world!

@laurenb94 interesting to know...
My experience:
NordVPN:
- PC at home (Windows 11) // no problem
- Laptop with Linux // no problem
- raspberry Pi (4 & 5, Zero - several) // no problem
- Android device 1 (Xiaomi phone) // no problem
- Android device 2 (Samsung phone) // no problem
- Android device 3 (Samsung tablet) // no problem
- Apple device 1 (iPhone) // no problem
- Apple device 2 (iPad) // no problem
- Apple device 3 (MacBook) // no problem
(purposedly make it detailed, to point different kind of devices)
Surfshark:
// all same, all not problem
TP-Link router // it cost me a lot of trying this and that, but it's working // no problem
However, I DO NOT use supplied EE Smart Hub Plus at all, but my own TP-Link Omada equipment, and this might make a difference, while some people reporting, as EE SH+ has critical error with DNS/Memory leak affecting (not only) VPN services. (Disclaimer: can't provide any further info on this subject, and replicate only experience described by others elsewhere on this forum)

A lot of VPN applications have fail safe built in to stop IP packets ‘leaking’ outside of the VPN. This restricts and outright stops any traffic not specifically going out of the VPN. If for whatever reason, whatever you are doing, is trying to do that, that would make sense as to why. Not an ISP issue but application function/setting. Turn off VPN and things go back to normal? It’s the VPN doing it.
