Public routable IP address

My router reports my public IP address as 109.156.125.101, however it does not function as a routable IP address to my modem (consumer broadband).  The router has a Dynamic DNS feature that i am unable to use like i have done for the last 30 years with other ISPs.

What is the issue, have you put me on a CGNAT? I see other posts from 2025 where you say this isn't the case, but i cannot speak to anyone in support any more as your help system has been degraded to the point it's impossible to speak to a human.

Please confirm what the issue is, and how we can resolve it.

As i see it the price has gone up and service quality has gone down, am i getting this right?

@dinamo909 What hub are you talking about Fixed or Mobile Broadband, see the fixed ones below. No cgnat on EE Fixed home broadband, and you IP is routable, i can see you.

Thanks for your reply, i am using the "Smart Hub" listed on the page you sent (model SH31B as reported by the firmware). It is a fixed line, not mobile.

@dinamo909 See above was replying at the same time. Contact EE CS if you have a landline with your service, just dial 150.

Otherwise contact us bottom off the page.

@JimM11  150 Whilst is very chirpy and adamant about it being the best in the world and that it will help me solve all my life issues will not let me speak to anyone, and sends me in a loop of text messages, the only option is to report a line fault and start an automated line check, which passes.

@dinamo909 So what is your actual issue then, if you want another wan IP you may wish to power your hub off, at least a couple off hours not sure how sticky the DHCP server is but that is all you can do.

@JimM11  I am not attempting to release DHCP address, i am trying to route from the public internet to my assigned WAN IP address, albeit a DHCP leased IP address.

This has always worked with EE until i've tried for the first time using this particular hub.

I need to be able to do port forwarding from my external WAN to an internal LAN device.

My suspicion is that this is a CGNAT'd IP lease (i.e. private within BT's network)

My bigger issue is not being able to speak to someone directly who has the solutions.

Try calling EE CS on the Freephone no.(Opt 1) in my sig.

EE fixed BB is not CGNAT'ed.

If you think I helped please feel free to hit the "Thumbs Up" button below.

To phone EE CS: Dial Freephone +44 800 079 8586 - Option 1 for Home Broadband & Home Phone or Option 2 for Mobile Phone & Mobile Broadband

ISPs: 1999: Freeserve 48K Dial-Up > 2005: Wanadoo 1 Meg BB > 2007: Orange 2 Meg BB > 2008: Orange 8 Meg LLU > 2010: Orange 16 Meg LLU > 2011: Orange 20 Meg WBC > 2014: EE 20 Meg WBC > 2020: EE 40 Meg FTTC > 2022:EE 80 Meg FTTC SoGEA > 2025 EE 150 Meg FTTP

@dinamo909 Ok with you now, are you saying that the DDNS function is not working for you then. Believe that was fixed and added back over a year ago now. You can only use the selection's from the drop down that are offered. Again EE does NOT do a CGNAT with the home Broadband so all addresses offered are iPv4 or iPv6 on the wan connection. See if the search throws anything up for you.
