Poor speeds via extender

I'm on Full Fibre Giabit* with Smart Hub Plus and extender. The EE app says the main hub is getting 927mbps/108 mbps, however when stand close to the main hub my iPhone only shows sub 600mbps, and when connected with ethernet cable to macbook get best around 700mbps.

The speed drops even further to around 280 mbps when connected to the extender - that paying extra 10 quid for as the main hub signal doesn't reach upstairs. So that is less than 1/3....

Weirdly the upload shows about 90mbps even at the extender. So feels like the hub & extender either cant cope with 'high' download speeds or it is throttling.

Are others seeing similar drop at hub & extender...? The extender is kind of goldilocks flaky, complains too close/too far so kind of bummed with it.

Note, I've tried will nothing else on the network so not like TV or something else is sucking data.

* Is it just me or isn't gigabit 1000mbps??? Kind of funny the terms 'guarantee' only 700mbps, which is less than 3/4 of a gig!

Your expected download speed at the router is 1 Gig (which = 1000 Meg). EE will guarantee that speed is always above 700 Meg & if it isn't they will go into action & do everything they can to get it back up. Should they fail to achieve that they will allow you to leave FoC. It's a guarantee, not a joke,

Thanks, appreciate the T&C's and am aware. Ref 1Gig not just expected but marketed & branded as 'Full Fibre Gigabit' so IMHO is a bit disingenuous. When buy a pint of milk expect a pint, not best effort seven-tenths.

Sure in my case the apps stats 927mbps - but not see that come out of the hub. I spent time with tech support and best could suggest was an extender as issue is also that hub has poor wifi signal/reach. There appear to be posts complaining on this too...

My Q was really if others are seeing download speed drop off from the EE router (which one would have thought EE have some accountability for, not just to the WAN port...) and from the extender.

AFAIK I can at any point return the extender (to stop paying £10 extra) and TBH getting pretty close - the tech support was confident it would help but at best get a third of the speed and don't find the extender stable. So I'm thinking perhaps I push for downgrade of speed 'Full Fibre 500' as never going to get more than 300mbps from the extender when it works.

I guess a better question is what other recommended routers are folks using to get better signal/connection?

I'm tight budget so don't have dosh for full mesh router (and not interested in wifi7)...

BB isn't milk! This technology is such that its connection speeds at the router can vary over time & location. Full Fibre Gigabit is marketed with an average estimated connection speed of 900 Meg & with a guarantee of 700 Meg. All ISPs follow the same lines & are regulated by Advertising Standards.

Maybe if you got your milk straight from the cow you'll be in a similar position 😉.
