Openreach installing FTTC when FTTP is available

Hi

I've not gotten round to updating my copper broadband for family health reasons but had Openreach email saying they coming round to update digital phone & putting me on core 67 which is FTTC even though full fibre is on my street. I will receive my smart hub plus & phone adaptor shortly.  

They say i have a fortnight to change mind, not sure what that means as won't be going back to copper but just wondered if FTTC will still work ok after the switch off in January?  I guess they wouldn't be doing it if it didn't. i Should've just ordered FTTP but as said i haven't . I guess i'll get this done & upgrade after.. I didn't think if FF was available on my street they would do FTTC.

No, I'm talking about the filter feeding the downstairs phone.

@XRaySpeX  sorry it's so confusing. 

Why the splitter if I wouldn't need one as digital voice will be here.

It still would mean I have 2 filters inline which isn't good so I've read. 

It even says engineer may not even come to house for fttc so I couldn't even talk it over with engineer although I do have appointment 8-1 so I'm unsure..

I'm thinking of cancelling and just getting full fibre, seems like it's far less of a stress.. Google says they may replace master socket with a VDSL faceplate, so it's a bit confusing

@gazmix_1973 You are getting supplied all the wrong information, the connections are as follows.

1. Upstairs do nothing but plug your DSL cable from the old hub to the new hub, connect up your PC to Lan1 of the hub.

2. LEAVE the ADSL filter as it is upstairs alone. There is no change required to that.

3. Downstairs at your Single master OR phone socket, pull out the double port splitter socket, take out the cable connection that heads upstairs and plug it into the phone socket...

4. Your downstairs telephone that is currently plugged into the downstairs ADSL filter, will now go into the DVA that you have, the ADSL filter and the splitter socket are NO longer required.  

You may get a slight speed hit because of the 7 Metre telephone extension cable that is all, ADSL Filters are NO longer required in the slightest as there is NO Voice Data anymore on the cable at all, it is only High Frequency VDSL data. You only have ONE in because you need it for the RJ11 connection nothing else,,,,, It Will Not affect the signal at all....

@gazmix_1973 When you eventually go FF Full Fibre and keep you PC upstairs were it is, and assuming OR Openreach fit your new ONT down where your master socket is just now.....

Then that 7 Metre Telephone extension cable WILL require to be replaced with a suitable length Ethernet cable, think the standard length may be 10M so it should reach were you need it, that's a job for planning in the Future.... At this point you have the choice is the EE Hub better downstairs or upstairs, location means everything but you will have the feel for it all when you see how the EE Smart Hub 6+ throws it's wifi signal and it's Dect signal about.

You are turning it into a quagmire. Just sit back and let it happen and stop heeding AI. 

Knowing you FTTP will be just as stressful. In fact you will need to replace the whole run from downstairs to upstairs by Ethernet cable.

My arrangement was intended to work both with ADSL and analogue landline now and with FTTP and DV after the change.

@gazmix_1973 Not sure you are getting it all, the reason is because EE does NOT SEND you the correct cable to fit your OR Master socket, they try to cover all the connection types but that is an impossible task as there are single/double/filtered non filtered types off OR Master sockets and a few ways depending on what you have for internal/external wiring. Think i sent you an Amazon link earlier showing the cable.... Companies like sky/vodafone etc send the required cables out when changes happen, your box has the two items, and with you requiring the Hub to NOT be near the Socket then a standard short cable would never cut it anyway.

As @XRaySpeX points out the NORM is to do a Long length VDSL cable RJ11 to RJ11 and ideally into a VDSL filtered Master OR socket type 5C MkIV is the best which you DO NOT have anyway. 

Your single master socket currently is NON filtered at all hence the need for ADSL filters to pass data, and STOP the Broadband getting cut off when someone picks up the phone and disturbs the connection.

As soon as you go DV Digital Voice, there is just not any need at all for filters, you would only use them if you wished to hardwire the landline phones which you are NOT....

I don't know what to do.  I'm not getting as you say. 

I've just plugged cable to upstairs in without filter and my Mbps has gone from 6mbps to 0.7...

I haven't a clue about VDSL.  I'm worn out with it all,

I guess I'll have to cancel it and just get FF that goes straight through upstairs wall direct to pc then no stress and can discard all the wiring going upstairs

so i called EE & they said i'm getting SoGea not fttc & the lady said i have a engineer coming around and i won't be left without internet connection & i can go through options. It seems the only way as i have no idea with all the terminology.  

It's all affecting my health..  They can't cancel now & if i want i can i future, the EE person said it'd be quite basic, just drill through upstairs wall right to the pc cutting out all the wiring through the staircase, should have just done that ages ago.
