Openreach installing FTTC when FTTP is available

Hi

I've not gotten round to updating my copper broadband for family health reasons but had Openreach email saying they coming round to update digital phone & putting me on core 67 which is FTTC even though full fibre is on my street. I will receive my smart hub plus & phone adaptor shortly.

They say i have a fortnight to change mind, not sure what that means as won't be going back to copper but just wondered if FTTC will still work ok after the switch off in January?  I guess they wouldn't be doing it if it didn't. i Should've just ordered FTTP but as said i haven't . I guess i'll get this done & upgrade after.. I didn't think if FF was available on my street they would do FTTC.

Thanks

@gazmix_1973 It's NOT a problem with the way it is all connected. EE just did not send you the new required lead to connect, that is a RJ11 for the Hub to a BT Male phone connection, keeping the filter on will have very little effect on the whole performance. The amazon link show's what the cable is like, ADSL filters are just NO longer needed because VOICE is lifted of the system now but they cause you zero problems when used.

Amazon.co.uk : bt male to rj11 male cable

As I keep telling you what you have now for a Brightbox on ADSL will work equally well for a SH 6+ on FTTC.

However a simpler arrangement that would fit EE's recommendations would be a single DSL Filter at the master socket & a run of DSL Cable | RJ11 to RJ11 Cable from DSL Filter downstairs thro' the ceiling all the way up to router upstairs. This would do away with 2nd filter upstairs & BT phone connector but would require replacing the existing phone extension cable by a DSL Cable.

ISPs generally do not send out such a cable, but instead a RJ11 to RJ11 cable, as they rely on the DSL Filter to provide a connection for both DSL & voice as well as filter the BB off the analogue phone signal.

@JimM11  they sent me ADSL filter and I have an ethernet cable. @XRaySpeX  as of now with what I have is the filter upstair that is needed as it's a massive job doing what you say and they come on Wednesday. So I can just use that filter and not one at the master socket, just plug the cable that runs up the back of the stairs straight into the master socket. I have no other option at the moment. It's making me quite anxious

You are worrying too much! It should all be hunky-dory.

Forget my suggestion of a complete DSL Cable run. That's just how it should have done in the 1st place.

You could move your existing DSL filter directly into the master socket & plug the phone splitter into its phone socket (its DSL socket will still be unused). You can just put the DSL filter they sent you aside.

@XRaySpeX ok, just I was googling single master sockets and it said that you must have filter plugged into the wall, also it says that in the smart hub instructions leaflet which made me think of the one upstairs which made me query having 2 inline.

So I can just plug the broadband cable downstairs straight into the wall.

Thanks yes I get bad anxiety and stuff like this makes me overly worry.

What BB cable downstairs? You don't have 1. The only BB cable you have is the 4ft DSL cable from router to upstairs DSL filter.

This whole thing is being overcomplicated.

@XRaySpeX yes sorry I meant the cable that goes into the splitter then goes upstairs.

Yes I only have the 4ft BB cable.  So I can plug the cable downstairs directly into the single master socket once fttc is activated.

You can move your existing DSL filter downstairs directly into the master socket & plug the phone splitter into its phone socket (its DSL socket will still be unused).

I can't move the upstairs ADSL filter because the 4ft broadband cable doesn't go into the female cable that comes upstairs. The cable that comes upstairs, only the filter will fit into and the broadband cable fits into the other end of the  filter.
