Openreach installing FTTC when FTTP is available

Hi

I've not gotten round to updating my copper broadband for family health reasons but had Openreach email saying they coming round to update digital phone & putting me on core 67 which is FTTC even though full fibre is on my street. I will receive my smart hub plus & phone adaptor shortly.

They say i have a fortnight to change mind, not sure what that means as won't be going back to copper but just wondered if FTTC will still work ok after the switch off in January?  I guess they wouldn't be doing it if it didn't. i Should've just ordered FTTP but as said i haven't . I guess i'll get this done & upgrade after.. I didn't think if FF was available on my street they would do FTTC.

Thanks

@JimM11 @XRaySpeX  Gentlemen, I must say I admire your tenacity but have you realised this is only going round in circles because you keep replying to him?  Personally, I gave up after I supplied the basic information only to have it ignored.

@gazmix_1973  I wish you all the best, my friend.  I'm sure you will end up with something that works...after a fashion.  Good luck.

it's working apart from the digital voice

@gazmix_1973 24-48hrs for the switch over to fully get applied, your phone connected to the back off that EE Smart Hub 6+ or your Paired DVA if you are going that way. Would take the phone and connect it right into the back off the EE Hub....

thanks @JimM11 , .least you didn't have a go at me, thanks for that.  I called EE & they said what you said but because the phone is needed for families Dr appointments etc it's vital it works straight away as in the promotional video where it says 'once paired up you can get calling' Phone is downstairs  & hub upstairs so can't plug directly in..

I restarted the hub, synced again & it's been ok since..   The engineer did say the BT cable running downstairs was rubbish & he didn't want to put a filter in at the master socket but he said use an ethernet cable to the master socket that i thought was strange, think he meant a vdsl for fttc..  Anyway i have 75mbps at moment which is adequate..  RegardS

@gazmix_1973 So did the Engineer replace your Master Phone socket there should be NO need for him/her to do that.

Yes he would say NOT IDEAL way to be getting the SOGEA FTTC connection up to your Hub location using a Standard Phone Extension cable, they are good for voice, but NOT ideal for your current 75mb/s speed, that is why i said YOU MIGHT get a little speed hit....

THERE IS NO NEED for any such filters at all now, stop going on about them, trust me as an Engineer i know what i am talking about.

Understand and not going to look through this long long post again, but the change from copper ADSL voice even to FTTC that you have now, the landline phone is JUST NOT an instant swap over, it will take a few hours to do so.... Fully understand you want it and you want it now, but the BEST WAY is to take your Landline Phone upstairs plug it into the back off the EE HUB, and check it once per hour until you get a dialtone, once that is there try to use it, later you can see if the stupid DVA is working or not.

DANGER:- Do NOT be switching the EE Hub on and off to much at the start, the system may see you as a connection problem and the DSLAM may kick in and hammer your speed down,,,,

The cable advice the Engineer was trying to part to you, is they have Twisted Pair Cables, more immune to noise pick up and way better at 75Mb/s speed for the data hub to the street cabinet, that you must be very close too as way up there on a 80/20Mb/s that you have now. That needs to be done specially so JUST YOU FORGET about that OK....

@JimM11  no he didn't replace anything, he was here 15 mins at most, fixed his kit up to the master socket, went up to green box then came back, check the hub, told me what to do with the dva and went.

Ok I'll look out for speed hit, initial test was 40mbps then went up. He told me to get a long ethernet cable to come down the stairs, think he meant VDSL..

The phone adapter is downstairs, initially it didn't link up then it did and it could call out but I couldn't call it, was just silent, then it went totally dead for both.  I leaft it a while then  restarted hub, reconnected and it's been fine since and I got email saying it was all up and running..

No I wont be turning hub off but I will buy a  long VDSL cable I guess so I can get rid of the BT cable until I get FF.

Much appreciated. Regards

@gazmix_1973 Just try the cable as it is, no point in redoing the wheel, it may just work fine with very little problems.... A VDSL cable is NOT good for you now as it has RJ11 both sides, so if you do go that route make sure you buy one that reaches the Hub, all the way back to your Master Phone socket and YOU WILL need to use that adapter you bought down stairs now....

When you do go FF Full Fibre as you say, then at that point an new Ethernet cable may be required any way, so just hold off if it works fine, it can be done just now, but MORE adapters are needed than what you have currently.

@gazmix_1973 Regarding the DV side...

There is TWO parts to it, one is dialling out and the other is dialling in....

After that there is all the routing for different types so Landline to landline calls. landline to mobile calls etc etc.

After that the DVA works in the DECT Frequency range, and very much similar to wireless, if the signal from the EE Hub to the DVA is poor it just will not work well...... Think the new EE style one, AQUA light on it shows it's paired have never paid attention to them so it's either Green or Aqua....

@JimM11  ok , yes i meant a VDSL from hub to master socket. Currently the 4ft one is ADSL i think but i'm guessing both would be ok although VDSL a bit faster? . But think this may hold out until FTTP.. Yes i understand about the adapter i bought would be needed .

Yes  both aqua lights are paired.

Regards

@gazmix_1973 OK perfect, just keep an eye on your DV landline now, check the landline every so often for a dialtone, once it all starts to work you should be able to dial out and dial in as well.....

If your DVA does not ring the phone those are device dependant ie your type off telephone, then unplug the cable and stick one of your ADSL filters in between, that will make the phone ring on incoming calls.
