Openreach installing FTTC when FTTP is available

Hi

I've not gotten round to updating my copper broadband for family health reasons but had Openreach email saying they coming round to update digital phone & putting me on core 67 which is FTTC even though full fibre is on my street. I will receive my smart hub plus & phone adaptor shortly.  

They say i have a fortnight to change mind, not sure what that means as won't be going back to copper but just wondered if FTTC will still work ok after the switch off in January?  I guess they wouldn't be doing it if it didn't. i Should've just ordered FTTP but as said i haven't . I guess i'll get this done & upgrade after.. I didn't think if FF was available on my street they would do FTTC.

He is here to make sure digital phone is working as the EE customer service agent said. I've seen the video of fitting the BB cable to the router then ethernet to the pc, power up, wait until light turns aqua colour then good to go.

@gazmix_1973 Is you reply directed towards me? You will not have Digital Voice until Wednesday when OR Openreach come out and change the connections over in the Street Cabinet and sort the software side out routing wise at the same time.

ADSL is NOT the same as FTTC with a VDSL connection.... The reason FTTC is available to you now is one off two reason's the Others who have all jumped on FF Full Fibre has freed up FTTC to be available ie (Limited Capacity) or it's always been there but because you never did anything at all, ADSL was just left as the connection type from day one.

In some instances it can take 24-48Hrs for the old Landline connection to transition on fully to the Digital Voice side of the system, just be aware, if you are lucky it may just start up straight away, do not be surprised if the Engineer say's it will take a little time for the two to switch over. My neighbour was down a full month on her Sky switchover landline NOT working, but she would not listen took sky 1hr to correct it all when she finally called them up, they say sugar happens....

@JimM11 no I get that it's not the same even though the cable in the box looks exactly the same as one from ADSL filter to my current router, also the ADSL filter in the box is the same.

Yes, we were going to get FF but stuff happened and delayed it so openreach contacted me on behalf of EE.

EE said they make sure the phone would work as it is needed daily for a business so guess will have to see.

@gazmix_1973 Ok looks like you have the handle on it all now, had EE supplied the other cable you could have done away with the old ADSL filter you have now, but since it is not there then everything stay's as is connections wise upstairs just sort out the downstairs as before advised in the thread.

@JimM11 yes EE supplied the black cable that looks same as one I use now and an ADSL filter. Guess that's what you mean.

Yes doing away with filter and spliter downstairs but he'll be doing that. Thanks.

I can't fathom out what those 2 boxes are in your 2nd pix but if it works for a BrightBox  it'll work for the SH 6+.

You could put the SH 6+ in now. It works for ADSL as well as FTTC. It should at least connect to BB. You won't need to change the BB PPPoE username & pwd but you might need to change the WiFi SSID & pwd to match the BrightBox if you want any of your WiFi devices to connect. Your Ethernet'ed PC should connect straightaway.

There is:

1. A filter with a BT Phone plug = my 1st plug image.
2. A DSL cable with RJ11 plugs = my 2nd plug image.

EE BB now authenticates with the PPPoE username as either:

1. The modern BT creds, or
2. The old-style your-name.domain.co.uk@fs

@XRaySpeX  the pic on the green carpet is an adsl filter plugged into the cable that comes from the downstairs splitter that goes into the master socket. 

The first pic where the splitter is, the adsl filter is plugged into the splitter & the landline phone is plugged into that.  Phone could go straight into splitter but i found i could get more mbps with the adsl filter inline.
