Ongoing WiFi problems after switch from BT Broadband

About 5 weeks ago we switched from BT to EE for our Broadband and TV. Starting to regret that decision. We were sent a new router, a new TV box and 3 WiFi plus boxes. This is the same equipment we had with BT for many years. Over this period we hardly had any issues and I was always able to speak to someone if I wanted.  Oh how have things changed!!. We've been having ongoing problems and it is impossible to speak to anyone! When you phone them, you just get connected to a fault Bot and you end up in a loop. I've started to keep a record of the issues but generally the same problem. Over the last ten days, our WiFi has gone off during the night on six occasions. On the following mornings, nothing connects to the internet. The connection to the Ring doorbell, our thermostat, the TV, all our mobile devices, our work computers drops over the previous night. Weirdly, you don't realize initially because the router remains blue. The TV has an error IPC6023. Our phones advise that there's no Internet despite also stating that that we have an excellent signal. Unplugging the router and plugging it back in generally solves the issue but I shouldn't have to do this every other day! I've raised a complaint now but not holding my breathe. Starting to think that EE's equipment is substandard compared to BT.

Had exactly the same happen to myself. Went from BT to EE on contract renewal. Had 5 years brilliant super fast service trouble free. On being changed from BT to EE was told it was in name only and nothing else would change. However soon as it was EE the problems began. Loosing connection after midnight although showing full wifi signal. My cameras stop working along with streaming you tube and catch up services. Something is going on that we are not being told about. Still using BT equipment.

To all

Had BT for years very poor speed where we live no fibre, speed 2 mb !

So got an EE mobile hub that gives 20mb  2 years ago,,,, Everything is as should be up to 20mb drops to around 4mb in the house. We put up with all  with drops in connection on the hub and Wi-Fi almost daily to get some speed !

Then  friend told me to change the router/hub from EE to a decent model like netgear with ariel in our case and just take the sim out of the EE to new hub . And bingo everything works , no drops now in 3 months and speed constant.  Yes hub was around £100 plus . But it works unlike EEs poor product . My neighbours all did the same proving the point !!

@Micro476 It was more than likely the antenna that fixed your speed.

Good point Jim. But not the case!

We covered everything including external arial when changing router . Extra 45 for arial was seen as an insurance and worth doing in case as you said it was that  .

But we had the arial disconnected for the last two weeks now for painting works outside and guess what everything as good as without the Arial still. Signal still double the strength as EE hub, that read one bar, now 3 bars instead of 1 and nothing disconnects everyday like it used to still including tv. Wi-Fi etc etc . I think that puts the Arial issue to bed as the solution. Even works being in a kitchen cupboard with no arial , which when done with EE hub we lost all signal .

@Keiffy1964  where did you get your TV Unit from?

We use Wi-Fi and independent cat6 cable to boosters for direct streaming , one upstairs one down for Wi-Fi tvs when used, No sky involved.

Also have Sky Tv subscription and normal tv not sky's brand tv , and it works direct from sky box via cable that then runs to satellite dish on garage , WIFI communication router in hallway from Sky connects our other tv and links both sky boxes under TVs . And works well with only 20mb coming in max to the house. Sky Glass not really option with our MB and down load and upload speeds unfortunately.

Sky dropped all Wi-Fi communications as well as everything else that dropped in the house regularly almost daily , making a reboot on sky on almost a daily basis as well,  to find Wi-Fi again via EE Hub,

@Micro476 Looks like you settled on a pretty decent Netgear mobile router then... Good to know that it works just as well with/without external antenna, those do sometimes help depending on how good the signal from the mobile mast is.👍

I have had so many problems myself here too I was with bt too until my service came up for renewal for my renewal I was speaking to a bt adviser at the end of the day I went for the same deal for a further two years contract right at the end I could not believe what I was told I was told by was now discontinuing serving residential customers and were now only going to be dealing with businesses customers and that the residential customers were going to be put through there sister company which suprise suprise is ee  I think ee are getting extremely overwhelmed by the amount of customers that are being sent there way and are just not able to cope with it I think there needed to be a bit more work done to enable them to cope with the extremely high volume of customers that where being sent there way this however does not help us customers that are stuck right in the middle of this total and utter great big mess that they need to get sorted out how long this mess is going to go on for is any ones guess isn’t it come on ee get this great big mess sorted out sooner rather than later a disgruntled customer at present

I too have had lots of problems with moving to EE from BT. I found that it looks like the WiFi mesh expander work on the 5ghz frequency and some how forces 2.4ghz items on to the 5ghz band, I didn't think was possible until I frequently watched one of my 2.4ghz IP cameras migrating onto the 5ghz band and stop working. I don't think the mesh extends support the older 2.4 GHz although the router does. I replaced the mesh extenders with an old WiFi mesh extender ac1900 with separate 2.4 and 5Ghz channels and everything was fixed instantly and has continued to work perfectly, thus suggesting the problem is with the mesh extenders in my case. So now I'm stuck paying for mesh extenders that are useless. EE were absolutely no help as they had no idea why it was happening
