New FTTP 900 / 110 Mbps Upload capped at 50Mbps

We had our FTTP installed last week (27.01.2025).

I have been doing speedtests over the ethernet ports on our EE Smart router (White) from 2024. screenshot.
The upload is definitely capped at 50Mbps.

A telephone call with EE service today was less than satisfactory, the person reckons it could be the ethernet cable from the ONT to the router, and will send me a new one!!!!! Surely if I'm getting 900 download then I should easily be getting 110 upload?

Attached is a speedtest:

I did point out to the lady that if the cable was capable of 900Mbps in one direction, it should easily cope with 110 in the other direction! She actually agreed, but still insisted on sending one anyway. I'll wait till the cable comes, "test" it, and ask why I didn't get a new router. If I don't get any satisfactory solution, I might actually buy a decent router. What would be a good recommendation for a router. I need 2-4 Ethernet ports.

@ghayne53

I'm an Asus fan and currently use an RT-AX5400 that's about £110 on Amazon - it's only wifi6 but that's enough for most users I think.

You can setup various VPNs either as servers or clients & that's a feature that works well.

@ghayne53 - did EE offer you a newer router when you upgraded? I'd have expected you to be given the option when upgrading.

I don't know if EE have ever offically shipped the old Smart Router to 900mbps customers but there's an inference in an old post here that suggests the device may indeed have a 50mbps upload cap.

Cable came today, no improvement! @XRaySpeX A red herring as you said 😀 It does have red plugs 😐

Spoke with EE, Smart Hub 6 Plus is on it's way!

Many thanks for all your help!

Upload speed looks much better there, @ghayne53

I'm assuming that's on the replacement router?

Chris

@Christopher_G @ghayne53 Certainly a marked improvement and at least the full upload speed is now being reached with his new + Router if that is what is connected, although OP only posted the speed test table up!
