Modem to replace EE Smart Hub

Hi there,
I would like to replace my EE Smart Hub with a mesh modem/router.
I would like to install a Tplink modem/router.
I spotted this option:
Alternatively a Vigor2866 ac modem
Some advice?
Thank you

Either the Deco or Draytek modem/routers are suitable for replacing the EE SH. In Home Broadband settings you'll find almost everything you need to set up your own router. What's missing for Fibre is:

  • VLAN ID = 101

Thank you.
my current plan is Fiber Plus. I understand that if the Fiber 300 max plan arrives in my area, the connection must be in Gfast.
In this case I would like confirmation that the Decos will no longer be compatible while the vigor 2866ax will be compatible with a Gfast connection.
Can you confirm me?
Thank you very much

That's correct!

  • The Deco is only VDSL2 & won't handle G.Fast.
  • The Vigor does both VDSL2 & G.Fast.

What does BT Wholesale Broadband Availability Checker estimate for your phone number? Post just the whole table and the line above it, blanking out your phone number. If it doesn't recognise your phone number or you don't have one, use the Address Checker.

@BB521   The TP Link router is VDSL only, however the chances of you getting G Fast is very slim. Any investment is now being put into getting full fibre rather than enhancing copper services.

You quote two different Draytek routers, the ax version is Wi-Fi 6 and is G Fast compatible. The ac version is Wi-Fi 5.

You might find thsi comparison chart useful.

@Mustrum : Both Vigors are G.Fast compatible. They only differ in the WiFi, 5 vs. 6.

I bought a tplink x73dsl.
I tried to configure in two ways.
1. choosing "EE_vdsl" as ISP, and inserting username and password into PoPPE, give me EE password of the type PRODUCTIONHQNUN123456
HQNPASS123456. The app automatically entered the value IDVLAN=101.
2. choosing other as ISP and then manually configuring both the connection type (PoPPE) and the IDVLAn=101.
The modem does not connect and gives the error message I am attaching.
I also attach the screenshot of the IPV4 which gives an incomprehensible result....Error message.jpgIPV4.jpgIDVLAN.jpg

@BB521   the chances are you have got the username or password wrong - did you copy it from the smart hub?

I'm suspicious that your DNS IPs are BT's, not EE's. Where you get them from?
