Open Reach Modem new installation

Vanishdark

I have a few questions about the current open reach foto installation that my flat has.

Before ordering, I'd ask EE these three questions:

Can you activate Full Fibre 1.6 Gbps using my existing Openreach ONT?

Will you replace the existing ONT with a multi-gigabit ONT if necessary?

Does the £1.6 Gbps package include the Smart Hub 7 Pro and WiFi Extender 7 Pro, or are these additional costs?

Thank you all.

Booked for a new installation, an engineer will visit the property to upgrade the ONT.

@Vanishdark Have a look if 1.6Gb/s is available area wise and that you can get it.

Package does have an EE Smart Hub 7 Pro hub, not sure if you automatically get a Smart Wireless unit but you may get.

Ont Would be required to be swapped if the current one does not have a 2.5Gb/s Nic port, yellow is 1Gb/s and Orange is 2.5Gb/s so look see what you have on your ONT. Looks like the Pon is not lit on your unit at all so is there a fibre fault currently? Checker below to see what OR does to the home address.

  1. Dunno which ONT that is.
  2. If that only a 1 Gig ONT EE will replace it with a 2.5 Gig ONT providing you are not upgrading from <= 1 Gig to 1.6 Gig within the BT Group.
  3. The 1.6 Gig package include the Smart Hub 7 Pro but the WiFi Extender 7 Pro is only included on the Premium & Ultimate flavours of the plan.

@shakey19811 Can be anyone off the first three in the Posted picture you supplied for the Nokia -Q/R/T and the -T is the only one that has the 2.5Gb/s Ethernet NIC interface on it but the OR SIN has the details wrong in one off the versions just so you are aware but corrected in the revised document.👍👌

From the serial number, it looks like an older Nokia/Alcatel-Lucent model with a 1 Gbps Ethernet port, although I couldn't open it to check the exact model.

There is also Hyperoptic equipment and some Virgin Media equipment in the property, so it looks like there have been a few different broadband installations over the years!

I'm thinking about going with EE Full Fibre 1.6 Gbps, but I assume the existing 1 Gbps ONT would need to be upgraded to support those speeds.

Just wondering:

  • Would EE arrange for Openreach to replace the existing ONT with a 2.5 Gbps model?
  • Would that be included with the 1.6 Gbps package, or would there be an extra charge?
  • Would replacing it mean drilling new holes in the wall or running new fibre cables, or could they just reuse the existing fibre connection?

Has anyone been through this when upgrading to the 1.6 Gbps package?
