Modem recommendation for firewall router

Roots71

Hi all,

Have seen a few of the posts on here but none seem to relate to firewall routers.

Just wondering if anyone on here can recommend an EE-compatible (on Fibre Plus package) modem to use as a bridge modem for my firewall router, as tried a Draytek Vigor 130 and couldn't get it working even with specialist router engineer. Spent several hours trying to make it work as it was (supposed to work "out of the box"), changing a few settings based on EE recommendations, and also doing factory resets but none of it worked.

Also put in @FS username and password into the firewall router.

Would really appreciate any recommendations based on actual experience as currently using the Smart Hub as a kind of bridge but with WiFi turned off. It works but from a security standpoint not the ideal solution.

Thanks!

The Draytek Vigor 130 is as good as any & should work in your situation. Standalone modems aren't overly common.

Is there any way I can private message you?

Assuming you are on the up to 78Mbps package, the Vigor 130 should work fine.

As you say its working with the Smart Hub, suggests you did not set up your router correctly, so trying another modem is likely to produce the same issue.

You mention adding @FS - suggests you are not sure of your username and password.

Most routers include a firewall. In that respect your router is like all others. The Draytek Vigor 130 should work with it on EE Fibre Plus.

You mentioned the BB username and password. That is most likely the setting to get wrong. Where you able to work out the pwd?

In Home Broadband settings you'll find almost everything you need to set up your own router.

In the modem is there a setting for VLAN ID? Make sure it is set to 101.

@Roots71  you can double check your username by logging into your EE router, the paword is the username without PRODUCTION and @fs.

The 130 settings are in this link. https://www.draytek.co.uk/support/guides/kb-vigor-130-bridge

Your router needs to be set for PPOE with your EE username and password, you can use your preferred DNS .

Hope this helps

You keep forgetting the "HQNPASS" prefix.
