I previously ran a Vigor 130 ADSL/VDSL modem with a Synology RT2600ac router on my EE 80 Mb line without any issues. Unfortunately, about six months ago the line started dropping frequently, and EE asked me to reinstall their own kit (EE Smart Hub Plus – SH31B) so they could run full diagnostics. They eventually replaced the Smart Hub, and I’ve been using that since without problems.
I’m now trying to switch back to my Vigor 130 + Synology setup, but I can’t get it to connect at all. A few things I’ve tried:
Using my original PPPoE username/password from years ago — no connection
Using the generic EE PPPoE credentials listed on their website — still no connection
Swapping in a second RT2600ac to rule out router issues
Reconnecting the EE Smart Hub — works instantly
This makes me think the line and router are fine, and the issue is either the modem (the Vigor 130 is getting old now) or something has changed in EE’s authentication or line configuration since the diagnostics.
Questions:
Has anyone successfully used a Vigor 130 + Synology router on an EE FTTC line recently?
Does EE still accept PPPoE with generic credentials, or have they changed something?
Could the Vigor 130 simply be too old now, and if so, what modem would you recommend as a replacement?
Is there anything obvious I might be missing in the setup?
Thanks for reading — any advice appreciated.

Yes, EE accepts the generic BT PPPoE creds bthomehub@btbroadband.com/BT
Can you get at settings for the Vigor? If so, does it have any for VLAN ID (=101)? Does the Synology?
When using the EE router, it is connected to a BT phone socket, possibly via a dangly filter?
