Hi there, yesterday I started to get EE Home broadband, I have noticed that it shows the SSIDs: ee wifi (open) and ee wifi x (closed) networks too that other people can log in to if they have ee login details.
II'd like to opt out from this service. I did not agree to share my broadband with anyone else so would like to stop these other networks appearing.
I have looked through xx.xx.xx.254 dashboard settings and advanced settings and app but cannot see a way of stopping these sharing networks.
Can I please have some help to remove this SSIDs from my Smart Hub Plus, router model SH31B? thanks
Solved! See the answer below or view the solution in context.

@Mustrum : Not a good idea! It confuses matters & responses.

The OG question was how to disable the public WiFi SSID broadcast wasn't it? Which was answered by @John-C. That said, I was under the impression that the public Wi-FI was not enabled on the Smart Hub Plus, so I'm struggling to explain @juniormoura73's observations 🤔
There was an issue with hidden SSID's on the previous revision of some BT based routers, but was fixed with a firmware update.
The BT Smart Hub 2, EE Smart Router, EE Smart Hub (second revision) and EE Smart Hub Plus all broadcast hidden SSID's for the backhaul mesh feature I believe. This backhaul broadcast can be disabled, but only by disabling all WiFi, including the SSID you connect your devices to.
In my area at least it seems to be BT Customer routers that are broadcasting the EE WiFi SSID perhaps @bobpullen can comment?
I could be wrong but I was under the impression that it was only BT routers and the EE Smart Router that broadcast the the Public SSID. I definitely don't see it on my Smart Hub Plus. I can see an 'EE WiFi' network in my vicinity, but it isn't coming from my hub.

Thanks @bobpullen but no @John-C answer does not say how to stop your router broadcasting the EE WIFI SSID, it says what to do if you do not want to be able to connect to a public EE WIFI SSID.
As I understand it legacy EE customers do not have free access to the EE WIFI service that is available to BT Broadband customers. Is it available to NEW EE customers?
It may be that the OP has other routers in their area broadcasting the EE WIFI SSID.

Despite the questionable wording, it controls both I believe. At least the page looks similar to what I remember the BT equivalent to look like, and that definitely disabled the hub broadcast.

Yes, I believe so. The info here suggests it is. And if I connect to an EE WiFi SSID, I see this :-
It may be that the OP has other routers in their area broadcasting the EE WIFI SSID.
That's what I'm thinking too, even despite the observation that the SSID 'goes away' when the hub is powered off. To be entirely sure, the OP could use a third party WiFi scanning application that displays the MAC address of each BSSID in it's scan results. That would be a dead giveaway as to where it's coming from.

I will need to check my EE smart hub router again, as I thought I observed that even when both 2.4 and 5 GHz was disabled in the router admin pages, the hidden ssids were still being broadcast on 2.4 and 5 GHz, when using a WiFi analyser scanner.
Is anyone else able to check their EE smart hub plus router and confirm this please.

My router is broadcasting the same but this page has no opt out for me, only opt in?

@cjp33 : If that page only has "Opt in" it means you are already opted-out.

I’ve never been to that page before.
And it’s rather besides the point. If I have previously and unknowingly opted out, why is my router still broadcasting the EE WiFi SSID?

@cjp33 : Which EE BB product do you have?
I've also never been there before this thread. I'm opted-out & can't opt-in but that's cuz I'm on a legacy EE BB plan.

I have recently taken EE broadband and I am having the same problem. My hub is being used to offer EE public connections to WiFi. If I turn my router off the ee WiFi and EE WiFi-X turns off which proves that my hub is the source. You can’t stop this apparently but I have requested this. My permissions had not been sought.
