How do I disable EE WiFi & EE Wifi-X

I was looking for some information regarding 'EE Wifi' & 'EE Wifi-X'.

I have 2 lines at my address, 1 EE & the other BT. As soon as my BT service started I opted out of BT Wifi as I didn't need, or want it active. Since having both services (aprox 2 years) I've only ever seen either the BT, or EE hubs when searching for a WiFi network. Just recently I have started to see EE Wifi & EE Wifi-X as well as my hubs when I search and I can't seem to find a setting to remove, or disable them. About 4 days ago I found a link to opt out of the EE Wifi service, but dispite this it still appears on my available networks. *Side note, I don't have any neighbours, so can confirm these signals are coming from my hubs.

Can anyone advise on how I stop these networks from showing up altogether?

Thanks in advance 🙂

@Lucky_AOS The 2 extra SSID that you see are from the BT router, there is no way to turn them off, it is the hotspot feature that anyone who knows about it, can hop onto them as a local wifi access point. If you turn the router off you will see them disappear that way you will know for sure that it is your router.

@JimM11   that is not correct, there is a way of turning off the public service from your routers.

That said it is a good idea to turn each router off in turn to determone which one or if it is both.

Older BT routers had a menu item on the GUI, then on the BT Myaccount, the EE in MyEE if it is a recent account, however if it is an older router there may not be a way of switching it off.

So I have a Smart Hub 2 (BT) and the Smart Hub SH31B (EE), but I'm not seeing any option to turn these off from the hub controller. When I turn off the EE hub the ID's disapear, so they are definetly tied to the EE service.

I believe when you opt out of the BT public WiFi the ID's dissapear. So unless i've somehow been opted back in without my knowlege the ID's shouldn't be there. As I have also opted out on the EE service, I would have expected the ID's to disapear, but sadly they are still active.

@Lucky_AOS Are you 100% sure that it is the EE Smarthub+ router that is transmitting the EE WiFi ssid, or has this been set as the default name for this router. Have a look on the BT forum with regards to turning off on the router. I am opted into the EE wifi on my account, but the EE Smarthub+ does not transmit either of them, neighbours BT Smarthub does!

@Lucky_AOS   how long have you had the EE Router and do you know what the firmware version is.

Also have a look at this thread, was this the link you followed?

@JimM11 Okay so strangly I've just turned off the BT hub and left the EE hub on. The networks disappear. I’ve then turned on the BT hub and switched the EE hub off and the EE WiFi & WiFi-X are now showing.

So is there an option i'm not seeing in teh BT smart hub 2 settings to stop these networks showing up?

@Lucky_AOS As mustrum pointed out, you will need to logon to the BT hub manager so better to switch of the EE while you are doing this, and you will be looking for Public WiFi, somewhere around advanced settings i would assume. From the BT Forum i do not see anyway that it can be done, but you will have to look and see. May have been a new FW upgrade to the BT router that has done this. Let the forum know if you have any success.

@JimM11  I have been onto my 'MyBT' account to check therr and it somehow the public WiFi service was showing active, so I have opted out again. This seems a bit dodgy, I opted out at the very start of my service and somehow in the last week or so I've magically been opted back in. I'll see if given a few days that gets rid of the ID's.

I'll also go in and look for a public WiFi option in the hub manager, but I'm sure thats only a BT business customer option.

Thanks again for your help 🙂
