I'm the owner of the 1st floor flat as you'll see in the image. I'm currently with Virgin but have ordered EE. I've received an email about them drilling through and fitting a junction box externally which is where my confusion comes from. With Virgin this was not necessary and assumed it was all built in internally. As a flat owner obviously I am not the owner of the building which is where my concern comes from. I've contacted them for clarification but has anyone got any knowledge in this situation which can possibly help as now I'm confused and wondering if installation is even possible. I know there's an internal cupboard in the communal space which is where broadband is fed into the block so would it just be fitted here? It's fairly new build only being 10 years old and has full fibre virgin currently.

@Ad182 for some reason your pic got rejected. That said it does not help.
The issue is if you have any Openreach infrastructure in or near the building. Virgin use their own lines and EE can only use Openreach.
If you check your address on the BTW DSL Checker, does it give you any options? Use a desktop browser mode, not mobile and post the complete table, it will show if there is any options. Do make sure you hide your address though.

I presume you have ordered EE Full Fibre. This is provisioned by OR & involves a fibre cable laid to a junction box on an outside wall, drilling thro' that wall & fixing a ONT modem box on the inside. See How is Full Fibre to the Premises installed?
VM has a diff infrastructure than OR & could well have a diff routing of their full fibre. I don't know it.
What does BT Wholesale Broadband Availability Checker estimate for your phone number? Post just the whole table and the line above it, blanking out your phone number. If it doesn't recognise your phone number or you don't have one, use the Address Checker.

Thanks for replies. I have contacted the landlord for the communal building but I'm assuming it should be able to be kept internal from the Comms cabinets in the communal corridor. I don't think they would want boxes fixed externally so will see what they say.
I don't even know the landline number and I'm not at home right now so will double check in the morning but this is what information I get when doing it from the address information..

@Ad182 you used the mobile version of the checker, so does not show the complete table.
That said it also thinks you are in a house - single dwelling, not a block of flats, so unlikely there is any existing infrastructure available. I would guess the landlord/developers arranged for Virgin to connect the building, but not Openreach.
I suggest you will need more investigation if you want any service other than Virgin.

I wouldn't assume that! Full Fibre involves a box on outside wall.
Yes, WBC FTTP is OR Full Fibre. That's all you can get from EE or other BT-based ISPs.

Thanks for the help so far I'm just trying to understand what a lot of it means at the minute. I just did it via desktop site and got this information. I guess I'll have to see for sure what they can do and what the building owner says.

@Ad182 The huge red flag for me is the line below the table. that thinks you are in a single house (Single Dwelling Residential) then the bit about underground Potential Wayleave Issues, mean this is not a straight forward install, and at the very least will require a proper survey from Openreach before you get a straight answer from anyone.
Whatever you do, if you place an order, do not cancel any existing service until your new one is up and running if it is important to you, 30 days or so dual running would be a small cost to pay.

Yeah I've created a headache for myself as I've already cancelled due to be disconnected on 12th and ordered EE to be installed on 15th. It's not critical for me but certainly going to be an inconvenience.
I'll ring the building owner tomorrow. I have a feeling I may need to go back to virgin though at this rate but hopefully if that's the case then installation would be quick as the infrastructure is already in place. I'm sure the building owner will be able to give me a solid answer if I can or can't have it installed.

Let us know how it goes tomorrow.
Maybe spend a little more time before next year/contract up time, and also get a better deal from VM, / sure it will have been offered if you have cancelled.

- EE have arranged for an Openreach engineer to attend, is this actually needed? in Broadband & Landline
- EE FTTP 1.6g - How can i keep my landline? Pavement a issue? switching from VM in Broadband & Landline
- New customer & large 1st bill in TV
- EE Smart Hub Plus working with FTTP (or not) in Broadband & Landline
