Email client problems since Free-online changed to Greenby

Hi, I'm having problems with my email clients on my desktop computer since Greenby took over plusnet/free-online. I think it may be the Ports that are required. I keep being told that my User Name and Password aren't recognised (even though they're correct) and it won't save the settings that Greenby has given me for the servers. Please advise, or am I going to have to use Webmail all the time now?

Ah, good! Both here & BT Community told you to keep away from Port 25 Outgoing.

Yes: 25 simply didn't work, despite being what Greenby kept insisting on. I don't know why they didn't suggest alternatives.

Some Special Characters in passwords don't work (! for example).

Many thanks to all of you in the community!

Yes, it is general rule that Port 25 can never be used outside its home network as it is unauthenticated. Greenby had no right to suggest it as neither they nor PN were providing your network.

Port 25 might still have worked had you still been on PN BB since Greanby had not taken over its BB, just its email. So Greenby's servers, *.enmail.co',  are probably hosted on the PN network. That means Greenby has failed to take account of those users who have left PN BB & moved to another ISP while still retaining use of PN email.
