A few weeks ago, a sales representative from EE came to my house and informed me that new fibre optic cables had recently been installed in the area. He asked if I would be interested in switching my internet service to EE, mentioning that the infrastructure leading to my house is managed by BT anyway.
It sounded like a good offer, so I agreed to switch. However, I already had an active contract with Sky at the time. The representative never mentioned anything about potential early termination fees from Sky, nor did he advise me to check the status of my current agreement. In fact, he even suggested I ignore any messages I might receive from Sky regarding my cancellation.
Now I’m concerned that I might be facing cancellation penalties from Sky, which I wasn’t warned about. Has anyone experienced something similar? What can I do in this situation? Is there any way to challenge these charges or file a complaint?
Any advice would be appreciated!

Telecoms provision in the UK is widely provided on a minimum-term contract basis. That is, service is provided on a rolling 30day notice basis, with a minimum-term. Cancellation of a service inside that minimum-term attracts early-termination-charges, which you will have accepted by using the service.
You certainly seem to have grounds for complaint with the sales-person for not warning you of potential early-termination-charges or checking when your minimum-term expired. But you'll almost-certainly find the charges themselves are valid.
You might want to read up on the switching offer EE have, those charges are potentially recoverable... https://ee.co.uk/help/broadband/getting-started/early-cancellation-credit

@spit93 : EE will pay up to £300 of your Early Cancellation Fees upon sight of your previous ISP's bill showing them. You can claim this online @ Switch Broadband to EE and we'll pay your leaving fee. It will be applied as a credit to your EE bill.

@spit93 With that amount of time and depending on the BB package you have with sky would expect you will be well over the £300 move, and you will also have to pay the whole sky bill upfront, then wait and hope that EE agree to pay all the termination charges only for the BB and Landline. Hope it all works out ok.🙄👍

I just had one of the customer service providers at the door they informed me about the termination fees and they said that they pay for it and I’ve just to send a simple email to the email dress they gave me. They said they take care of all of that. my termination fee for sky is just over £500 which I genuinely think is absolutely wild. hope that they do pay it even if they pay the biggest majority of it.

@Nicole111444 Just remember you have to pay sky the whole termination charge up front so when you get the final sky bill then it's a pay, once done and dusted with that part, you deal with EE regarding claiming back the £300 limit. So do look very closely at what EE request and the timescales that it all has to be done by!

@Nicole111444 Were it me I would get in contact with Sky and let them know you do not want to transfer your service before it is too late.
It would appear you have been told a pack of lies so do get in touch with Sky before it is too late and you end up having to pay £500 and not be able to recover.
