EE App - Broadband - Smart Hub Unknown Devices

Hi All

Have a question regarding my EE Smart Hub,

Looking at my EE app and Managing my Broadband Smart Hub Plus,

It keeps showing "Unknown Devices" appearing on my Network. If I delete them they will appear again overnight.

Currently it's adding 2 or 3 per night. All are offline when I login in the morning. They don't show any info apart from an ip address and a Mac address.

I've tried calling EE but no help so far

@JimM11 : I'm asking about when devices show up as online but "unknown" in the app as OP indicated in his OP, not when they are offline.

Tried that, get this response for all

Info

No assignment is found for this MAC: xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx

MAC Address more info

Locally administered addresses (LAA): the address is assigned to a device by a network administrator, overriding the burned-in address.

 Note

It's also be a randomized MAC. Media Access Control (MAC) address randomization is a privacy technique whereby mobile devices rotate through random hardware addresses in order to prevent observers from singling out their traffic or physical location from other nearby devices.

@James1980X Those are normally devices that have been connected to the network and have now moved off, example a mobile phone connected and belongs to the user, when moved outside of the wireless connection they change to unknown, and normally show as offline state. Is this possible for what you have and are seeing. When you delete from the app, because the devices is already known and more than likely auto connects once gone again its a repeat and rinse... Will get similar for devices that are struggling to stay attached to the wireless network. App is not the best also at showing what is going on and also get's confused but mostly for the online status, names are normally OK. HTH

Hi Jim

Thanks for the help. it could be this but just wondering about the time. They seem to happen overnight, not sure what's not connecting at these times. You might be correct but it would be great to know exactly what's happening but trying to speak to someone at EE is impossible.

@James1980X App is a chocolate fireguard, with regards to help, may also be a device that goes offline into a deep sleep mode, note your ip's and mac address that you see it with and if you suspect something like it check the app status when you think it is back online. Have similar when Grand Daughter's mobile comes back online when she fit's us into her schedule it pops back up to the name of her IOS phone sometimes just NOT always... And good luck if you do manage to get EE to help, but post back  if you find anything that works out.👍 Randomized mac filtering is a nightmare at the best of times.

Just checked my app, had 2 unknowns so told to forget them, will look when they re-appear, noted there ip's and macs so i know what to look for.

Ignoring the "chocolate fireguard" of an app, are these devices also showing in the routers own list of connected devices under My Network? If so, do they have sensible names there?

@XRaySpeX On my lookup and because they are offline and unknown they do not show up on the web interface in either status when looked at on the EE Router. HTH
