EE 1600 MB - Connection Issues, can anyone help?

Hello

So, around a month ago i was experiencing big issues with my router on the 900Mb plan, kept losing connection randomly each day so they suggested i can upgrade the package and should go to the broadband built for gaming etc 1600Mb package as it would help me.

Being honest the switch has been a mess, took a week for my app to work as the person “had spelt my surname wrong” and needed a special team to fix my account but that’s just one issue.

My big issues are the speeds and stability, when i used to play the xbox wirelessly i would get the 900mb speeds, now whenever i play wireless it is showing 200mb max 230 ish.. wired gets around 1GB but the stability is the real issue.

I’ve lived in this house 6 years and never really had any issues ping always running around 12 - this however has since upped the ping to around 20 despite promoting “lower ping mode” which seems a marketing tool.

Howverr the biggest issue is the lag spikes, in a game of fifa for example the orange bar will come up around 10 times a game and ping will spike to around 100, it does this often and on every game, this happens whether playing wireless or wired, i’ve tried with and without the “discs” on to test but having no joy either way.

Anyone have any ideas, with all the issues i’m up to about 15 calls in first 10 days of owning this package and it’s a miserable experience, for the quickest broadband in the UK and one that promotes more stability and lower ping mines got worse than my 900mb package

Any help is appreciated,

Please bear in mind, as following are my own observation (and I am not gamer, or not focusing on absolutely minimal ping, etc):

- back in time, when I upgraded to BT Full Fibre 900, their Smart Hub (2) supplied simply can't cope with such a speed at all, and there was no workaround at all other, than use of my own (consumer grade) 3 band TP-Link WiFi router, to get things working as it should. That said, it was still in chain BT Smart Hub 2, but with WiFi off, and handling technically only DMZ on one  UTP port, and phone service.

Like that, I got full possible speed on UTP, and mostly decent on WiFi.

- later I opt for Business grade Omada system, with 1 Gbps backhaul, but still behind the BT SH2, whilst need landline

No problems at all, both hardwired, and WiFi speeds improved.

History repeating, when I was upgrading to 1.6 Gbps package of new EE.

>>>>>>>>>>> Provided router is NOT CAPABLE of this service at all <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<

Firstly, it has 1 Gbps LAN ports only, and therefore NO WAY to provide more than 1 Gbps, minus overhead hardwired. Real Shame here...

While WiFi part is capable to provide in ideal situation up to 1.3 - 1.4 Gbps, that's not coming without troubles.

Firstly, it will don't give you control abour channel, and channel wide, and will deciding it instead. One moment You might be on  80 Mhz channel, second moment it will switch to 160 Mhz, and place it across band I of 5 Ghz Wifi, where it will fighting interference a lot, and slowing down whole EE Smart Hub+ extremely.

Secondly, it will primarily use only typical 3 WiFi channels on Band I, and, if you are lucky, it will go visit channel 100 with 160 Mhz on Band II .

At a present moment, for full potential of "Busiest Home Broadband - 1.6 Gbps) to be seen, there will be in need to go for own WiFi router, ideally capable to deal with Band II and Band III on 5 Ghz, which tend to be less crowded

My last router would get 900MB wireless though.. now i have 1600MB and can only achieve 200, something must be missing…

@JoeCullen As you do not post which router you have, a previous OP posted that on his EE Smarthub+ he logged into the admin, went to the wireless  mode operation and change down to Wi-Fi5 mode, that reduced his lag and gamming started to work as he expected. You may wish to try and see how it goes. HTH

I have given this a go but no change.

i have the smart hub plus that comes with the 1600mb broadband

Wireless speeds are running at about 200mb, even games on the ipad lag, xbox lags, my previous speeds were 900 and somehow upping the broadband has made it horrendous.

Technical team said it would be servers on the xbox not the broadband, cmon now..!

Any other ideas?

This internet is currently a complete shambles, how can the same line with a new router and higher speeds be significantly worse

Ping is sat 30-50 and speeds at around 200

When i plug the ethernet cable in the speed itself gets better, but lag does not. Multiple red bar in games and spikes to 100 ping at random times

Rwally struggling to understand what’s gone so wrong with just a router swapped that’s supposed to be better

@JoeCullen When you switched from the 900 to 1.6 package, did OR come and replace the ONT and EE send you the new router. Do you happen to have any other devices on the network, boosters/powerline/IOT devices also. Have you tried switching off the ONT and Router for a couple of hours?

Thanks for the message, yes new router and he had to replace it as it needed a quicker one he said.

I’ve tried switching off for a while etc, whenever i run a diagnostic check on the app it said the connection could be improved restart the router but said that every single time i do it and never changes.
