@TayGTR : You don't do it on the app but on the landline itself.
You can't turn landline 1571 VM service OFF but when you dial 1571 under Personal Options (2) > Calling Options (3) > Ring Period (2) there is an option to set the ring period to Short (4 rings), Medium (7 rings) or Long (10 rings) to give time for your own answering machine to pick it up.
To phone EE CS: Dial Freephone +44 800 079 8586 - Option 1 for Mobile Phone & Mobile Broadband or Option 2 for Home Broadband & Home Phone

Try dialing 15710 to turn it off. 15711 to turn it back on.

A knowledgeable EE rep told me "You can't at present just get voicemail deactivated (which is what I wanted because I have my own answerphone))
Apparently it's possible to deactivate it and all the extra functions (not sure what they are but perhaps call screening is one, but not just voicemail.
This is a known issue, so it seems that lots of people want it. So he implied "watch this space"
I am about to try lengthening the time when the 1571 answerphone cuts in and making sure my answerphone cuts in first.
If I get a satisfactory solution i will post again

before the 1571 network voicemail kicks in is maximised Log in to the EE
website (https://ee.co.uk/exp/home)
Plans and subscriptions
manage home phone
Under voicemail click settings
set Set the number of rings before calls are sent to voicemail. to maximum
which for me thats 10 rings.
Then on your home answerphone set the period before it cuts in to less than
the network default.
18 seconds worked on my siemens gigaset 475
Works just fine for me
Hope this helps.

Using 'Grand Master's 15710 suggestion, this actually took me to various Voicemail options, e.g. 'record greeting'. One of the options was set your ring period to 'short', 'medium' or 'long'. Mine was 'medium 'so I set it to 'long'. Following that, I didn't need to alter my answerphone as the 'long' period exceeded its timeout. I'd had the overlap timeout idea, but this was how to do it. I was just going to reset my answerphone cut-in, but that may have caused most calls to be answered by it. 🙂 Not good!

I got the same message today when trying to deactivate the EE/BT network answerphone service for my Mum as she is getting in a right muddle having always used her answerphone at home. For some reason BT were able to offer the ability to deactivate the service, but EE are not (despite the two companies being the same now).
Unfortunately setting the ring length to the maximum only works as a solution if you have your voicemail switched on at home and the ring length for your home phone kicks in sooner than the network based answering machine. If you have not switched your answering machine on because you are home, but unavailable at that time to take the call instead of ring, no answer, the network service still kicks in allowing messages to be left there.
The only option I was left with was to leave a greeting on EE/BT's network based answer phone service asking people not to leave a voicemail here and to try again later due to a limitation with BT/EE's network based answer phone service. I also use the time wisely why I have their attention and suggest to people to not consider moving to EE/BT for their landline services as in my experience you'd get more sense talking to a brick wall.
Looking forwards to the time my contract expires and I can leave EE/BT.

Ann,
Just leave your answerphone switched on all the time, as I always have. If I'm available, I answer the phone, if not a message is left. Since setting my ring timeout on the answerphone, I've had no trouble. It's built into my cordless base station. Maybe you have a different set up, e.g. stand alone answerphone and it will always cut in when switched on? Just guessing. But I can't believe there's not an option in such a device to circumvent that.

Only problem is that if you are using the BT/EE landline (on the 'phone), BT/EE automatically shunts the caller to 'your' voicemail! WHY do IT companies make it so difficult to TURN OFF THEIR VOICEMAIL???

- Landline problem in Broadband & Landline
- Petition to allow landline voicemail to be turned off completely in Digital Home Phone
- EE Home Phone Cut Off in Broadband & Landline
- 1.6gbps in Broadband & Landline
