Connecting a Netgear AC2200 wifi access point to new 1.6ghz EE Smart Hub Router

After some help.  I have upgraded our broadband and moved over to EE today.  I have a new Wifi 7 Smart Hub SH40J downstairs which is working fine but i have always ran 2 wired connections to a garden room and an upstairs office.  the wired connections run direct from the back of the SH40J to 2 Netgear AC2200 wifi access points.  i have reset the access points and set them up as new (which i have done before with BT and Sky broadband) but they are not working.  Any ideas why and how i can fix?

@ppcook8 Have a look on the EE Pro Router with the web manager http://192.168.1.254/ to see if you can at least check that they are on the Ethernet ports and assigned IP's to them! If the Pro is suffering from the Delayed connection Ethernet port you may not be able to connect, best to leave once connected at least 30 seconds before checking the Pro, not sure if it has lights on either so worth checking Ethernet connection if there is!

What you are doing is obviously possible, but not recommended as you will have two different types of wifi network.

My strong recommendation is to get hold of two EE Smart Wifi Pro (wifi extenders) and replace your old Netgear points with these. Using the wired ethernet, these will extend your wifi network so you have blanket coverage.

thanks for the answer but If it is a wifi access point isnt that the same wifif?  i have to add the network name and password when i set up the access point.  With my previous sky and BT you then just moved around the house and the phones/ipads connected to the stongest connection and the physical devices like TV's etc just stayed on the router/access point nearest their location but on the same network?

As it worked for BT and Sky before it seems strange this isnt working now with either access point i have.

@ppcook8 Did the web interface show you anything!

Hi @JimM11 Not really, it doesnt seem to recognise the access points are plugged into a LAN port.  Like i say i have had this working with 2 different providers and routers so i'm struggling to understand why now unless something is disabled on the EE router.

@ppcook8 The Ethernet ports on the EE Smarthub+ have always been very picky but i know you have the Pro model, when connections do not work the best way is to try an Ethernet Switch just before the unit, the Tp-Link TL-SG105S works great on the Plus and if you wish to power it off the USB port then the Lindy cable No 70266.

The Pro i believe is all 2.5Gb/s NIC ports with the added oops of connecting devices with the delay but quicker than the Plus.

It's up to you, if you do happen to have a spare switch lying around would be worth a try!

As you say, there is no reason that your wired AP's should not work doing the way you are!
