Charged for router i returned

I had ordered a router from both BT and EE.

I never went through with the broadband for various reasons and contacted both BT and EE to order returns bag. I was told that the companies were merging and to send both routers back to the same address, which had BT on the address label. I had asked at the time if this would definitely be OK and was assured by the customer service agent that it would be.

I kept the proof of postage as I posted at same time. The BT one was confirmed as having been received and as the address was the same for both I then assumed EE one had been received. I then got rid of proof of postage. I have now been charged 70 pound by EE for the router which they have no record of receiving and am being told that although the companies have merged they are still separate in many ways.

Is there any way to sort this out? A complaint was opened at my request and closed by EE with zero information. I will not pay the fee for a router I never used and returned well on time.

EE & BT are still separate ISPs. They are not merged. They may very well be both subsidiaries of the BT Group but operate as separate entities with their own products, services & prices.

By sending the router to BT's returns addy it did not go to its rightful owner, EE. As EE did not receive it they are charging you for it.
