Cannot join wifi from macbook Pro 2012

I had a BT Router for years and no issues connecting to my macbook Pro 2012. Either on Wifi or ethernet.
Just switched over to EE and with the new router, ethernet does not work and wifi does not connect. Just says an error with no reason. This is on Wifi 6  and wifi 5.

Any help please.

Oh my phone it says EE wifi (BT Hotspot) Does not connect.
But going back to the old router, EE wifi (BT Hotspot) does not work either

The old router was a Smarthub 2

@XRaySpeX Agreed. i know that, have neighbour still on the BT Smarthub2, just went and checked that router still sends out the public wifi signal, but now named EE WiFi so think OP is on about it.

@RainCloud On the pull out card my original Network name was like EE-123456 that will be your new connection, the password is below your name, that is unless you have changed any of the default values. Does not look like the macbook pro 2012 will like the WPA3 settings so you do have to try and get the balance of what will work. Looks like the Ethernet cable supplied may also be faulty unless it just does not like the mac, but cannot see that,

There is no ee wifi public hotspot feature on the new EE router, personally i do think it is good feature because it stops anyone from EE/BT jumping on you wireless and using your bandwidth. The BT Smarthub2 is really a good router, and if you still have it you can consider putting it back on. HTH

Only default value I changed was the wireless password.
I can put the BT router back and then get charged for not returning it.

@RainCloud You can try a few of the various setting's to see how it goes and if you can get your two devices working. If you send back the EE router it is the equivalent of sending back the BT, just put a note in the package you are keeping the BT router as it functions better than the EE with your equipment. You could call EE CS before to confirm if this is ok to do also if you wish. HTH

Now that would be a great outcome. Seeing my BT router never had any issues.

@RainCloud 👍 Go for it, you have nothing to lose, Newer is never always better as you are finding out and at least you are trying to get it working and not many plus points at present on the new EE Routers. Good luck

@RainCloud    just to help simplify things, I just answered another post with the following, but it seems also to apply to you.

"

your new EE hub has both uprated security and WiFi type that some older devices can struggle with.

But logging into the router you can change the security from WPA3 to WPA2 and to WiFi 5 from WiFi6.

Also if you still have your BT router, this will work on EE, but of course you will not have the faster WiFi speeds or later security level."

Does not help with the ethernet issue, but take it one step at a time, maybe the simplest thing would be a new Macbook!

Yea seems the ethernet cable it came with it does not work on my macbook pro. But another cable has no issues.
As you say going down to WPA 2 works for my laptop, but then I have to change it to 3 for my phone.

Someone else has the same issue with their router on reddit. So I said to change to WPA 2 and should be fine.

Been with BT for over a decade and changing to EE, I  was not sure at all what to do.
