Cannot join wifi from macbook Pro 2012

I had a BT Router for years and no issues connecting to my macbook Pro 2012. Either on Wifi or ethernet.
Just switched over to EE and with the new router, ethernet does not work and wifi does not connect. Just says an error with no reason. This is on Wifi 6  and wifi 5.

Any help please.

@RainCloud  you may already said, but what phone do you have, and can you change the options on that to pick WPA2?

On iPhones it prefers WPA3, but you can choose to ignore that - a cheaper option than changing all of your older tech!

@RainCloud The BT router only goes as far as WPA2, for its encryption standard, EE router introduced WPA3 2 modes of operation - Personal and Transition, so if the device trying to connect does not get the correct method of communications to the router it just wont work, Although supposed to be backward compatible it is not 100%. Your iPhone is wpa3 but the MacBook Pro is wpa2.

  • WPA2/WPA3 Personal(AES): Like the WPA/WPA2 hybrid, this mode is designed for backward compatibility. Your WPA2-only devices will connect using WPA2 (AES) and your WPA3 devices will use the more advanced protocol. It may also be labeled as "WPA3 Transitional" or a variation thereof.
  • WPA3 Personal (AES): Older routers don't have WPA3, and older devices can't use WPA3. But if you have a new router that supports WPA3 and all newer devices, there's no reason not to switch over entirely to WPA3.
  • If you have a newer router that supports WPA3, we recommend trying WPA3 (AES) to jump to the highest level of security. If you run into any issues, switch to WPA2/WPA3 Hybrid (AES). This way, the newest devices will use the best security, and the older devices will fall back to WPA2---either way, they'll be using AES, which is ideal.

Hi @RainCloud , what colour was the ethernet cable you say wasn't working with your macbook? Red or Yellow ends?

I tried to login earlier to reply and it says we have locked your account.

The ethernet provided by EE is yellow.
The one that did work is white and I use that for my PS5

@RainCloud

So, as your pc works on the ethernet, I would suggest plugging this cable into the Macbook and seeing if this works as could be a faulty port on the router

(A)  If it now works, then the port is faulty on the router

(B) If it still does not work, then either the port on the Macbook is faulty , or it might need a reset

If after resetting, it still does not work as in the article above, then it might well  be a faulty ethernet port on the Mac.  You could also try taking your Macbook to a friend and see it it works on their router via ethernet

The enternet that came from EE works on my PC but not my mac (Yellow)
The white one for my PS5 works on both
I am not going to reset my mac, would take ages to reinstall everything and now works on wifi with WPA2 and below.

@RainCloud

No you have to reset the ethernet connection, not the whole Mac, if you read the article its how to reset the port on the Mac, not the operating system 😯, maybe I was not clear enough
