Bill holder

When we were billed through BT with our landline and broadband my wife had the authority to deal with the account, now I’m told that it is not possible with EE at all. My wife  has no authority whatsoever. If i became incapacitated it could be dealt with through a power of attorney and the account would be changed to her name  but keeping the old number or I could get it changed now.  What a backward step my wife deals with these bills and other utilities  as I work! unfortunately I cannot revert back to BT at the end of my term. Years ago British businesses mainly dealt with the head of the household the man, and the directory entry  was in his name, even if he died, no one would tell BT the bill would  still be addressed to him and the phone book entry stayed the same, it was thought it was better to have a man’s name and not make it obvious that a woman was in the house possibly living on her own. So when all these accounts are migrated to over to EE you will have a shock because the main account holder died years ago. If you got the authority as time has moved on with contracts now being the way to go, you still wouldn’t know, as long as they were paid nobody worried. I wanted to raise a complaint but there doesn’t appear to be a policy although the lady operator said she would see. I said it was a sexist, years ago my wife had to inform my accountant what money she had received in savings, never mind a single woman getting a mortgage …..That’s how married woman were treated thankfully that doesn’t happen now but what is so special about my EE account that my wife cannot talk about the bill when she is ringing on the very same number.

I have just spoken to EE after moving from BT last month, I dealt with problems that we have had since, but now like you when I want to discuss the bill because despite asking for the broadband account to be added to the current mobile account it was not done and they took the money, surely that is against the law? Because evidentially ee are having trouble linking broadband to mobile accounts so I am now going to get paper bills sent to me instead at no extra charge. Why wasn’t I told this on the 31 May? Anyway I made sure my husband was present to give me the authority like I had with bt and other utilities but have now been told this is not possible, I could change it into my name  or if he was incapacitated have a power of attorney, which we all know costs, what a backward step, and we can’t even go back to BT now at the end of the term. Digital voice is no good in an area with slow broadband the last thing you want to be doing is plugging your phone into your hub. Phones I had did not work my email on my old computer is not conforming correctly whereas it worked perfectly well before the transfer. All to save a few pounds on a new  contract,  how much time I have wasted on the phone sorting out problems.
