This post is partly an informational one to let you know about some exciting news I've found out about, but I still have a few questions too.
BT WiFi is becoming EE WiFi right now. There has been an ISP Review article confirming this, and I have personally seen an open "EE WiFi" network start to pop-up instead of BT WiFi. The most exciting change though is that there's now a new login option for EE Broadband customers. This means that EE Broadband customers can log in to every BT WiFi hotspot, not just the ones who's name has changed. You can just select "EE Broadband" under Account type and you'll be redirected to My EE to log in and then you'll be connected.
If you're an EE Broadband customer this is great news, but I still have a few questions.
I am currently a customer of BT Broadband and EE mobile. I thought this transition would see BTWifi-X entirely got rid of or replaced by EE WiFi-Auto (WiFi coverage boost). I'm all set up to connect to EE WiFi-Auto, so I thought that this transition would be beneficial. However, today I saw "EEWifi-X" This network used EAP security, and looked official. It was also in an area with great 4G coverage, so not a WiFi coverage boost area. So, my question is, how do I set up my iOS device for EEWifi-X? I'm asking this here since the network now has EE in its name.

Hi @Ocarter23, Sorry for any wasted time my comments have caused you. I wasn't particularly overstating what I had read, I just saw the "EE Broadband" login option appear and have heard from friends that they have apparently successfully used it. Personally I log in with a BT account so do not use this log in option. I myself have been able to successfully use the new service, although it no longer auto-connects.
I assume that as "EE Broadband" has appeared as a login option, EE Broadband customers will likely get access to EE WiFi (formerly BT WiFi) in the future as otherwise this option wouldn't be on the log in screen. It seems they've added this option before actually making it work, though.
Also, EE WiFi-Auto coverage boost hotspots (which make up under 1/15 of all hotspots) can only be used in EE mobile devices with a compatible EE Sim (i.e. almost all EE sim's) so having EE broadband in itself doesn't give you access to these.
So the odd EE WiFi (formerly BT WiFi) hotspot is a WiFi coverage boost hotspot, but the majority of them are not.
I hope this clears up any confusion, and sorry for providing what appears to be missinformation at this stage.

@Aftermidnight Yes you can use the service, but you need to pay for it first, unless you subscribe to something else that gives it for free.

Hi @Aftermidnight,
Welcome to the EE Community. 🙂
Have you purchased access at Get wireless internet | Find WiFi hotspots | EE WiFi?

@Theo77 BT/EE WiFi-X is no longer available for public use, see https://community.bt.com/ post #17 for explanation. I understand that users who are still using an old version of the BT WiFI app can still login.

This happens to me too and can’t get the wifi. Very annoying keep going round in circles

This is false advertising then as the wifi hotspots definitely state that EE broadband customers can log in and have access.
