I am confused. My current broadband and telephone are supplied by EE with the physical connection via copper wire although the copper wire connects to the fibre system in a box in the street. I get about 30mbs connection speed. The home telephone uses the current analogue system.

I want to get a faster BB which would involve upgrading to full fibre but I am told that at that point I would not retain my current land line phone number nor presumably the telephone system we currently enjoy around our house (we have several handsets at convenient points).

The phones are Gigaset which  claim to be connectable to an internet router.

When I look at web sites such as Which, Age concern etc they indicate that when the analogue system is switched off in2025 I would NOT loose my current phone number and that my current system of linked phones within my home would still work. However when I disconnect the Gigaset base station from the analogue connection the phones do not work even though the base station is connected to the BB router.

What is the true fact about landlines and current phone numbers if analogue is not available?

The EE web site clearly says that wifi calling with any compatible phone is possible and Gigaset make much of the fact that their phones are compatible!! How do you make it work?

@FGTQ   Starting with your last point - WiFi calling is a mobile phone facility, nothing to do with your Home phone.

For some time now EE customers have been able to choose broadband with or without a phone service via their landline. However they dod not have a digital service or VOIP service for customers on Full Fibre.

The age concern publication, like some others are ahead of their time, and there are several ISP's offering Full Fibre but no VOIP or Digital Voice service, Of course there are that do, BT, Sky Talk Talk and Zen U believe, if not in every area.

There is nothing to stop you signing up to a VOIP supplier and using your Gigaset devices, however there is no guarantee you would keep your current number, and if you were able to move it to VOIP, you would in the process cancel your current broadband service. If you were able to get a full fibre install done independent from your landline you would get around the above issue, however in many cases Openreach will remove your copper line when they install full fibre.

There are however steps supposedly in place for OFCOM to insist ISP/Openreach find a way to upgrade to Full Fibre and allow the transfer of the landline number to a VOIP service. Expected in April, although I could not find details on the OFCOM site.

@pip11  it should indeed be easy enough, alas at the moment it is likley to result in the cancelation of the OP's broadband.

The OP was asking about telephone on transfer to FTTP which has no landline or VoIP option.

Which Gigaset base station is it? I think it's unlikely that it's connected to the phone socket & the router at the same time, but I suppose it's possible. Anyway even if it were connected to the router it wouldn't be active until you get yourself a VoIP provider to connect to.
