Hello guys and gals,
I need some advice about what will happen with my old subscriptions and direct debits after my switch from TalkTalk ADSL broadband to EE Full Fibre 500 broadband.
For nearly 20 years, up until last Tuesday (29 April 2025), I had full-copper ADSL broadband with TalkTalk/AOL broadband (originally AOL Broadband, until TalkTalk took them over in 2014). The copper broadband package that I had was so old that AOL broadband were originally my ISP and my landline was run by BT, at a time when broadband packages and line rental charges were separate. This separation continued with my ADSL broadband and landline even after TalkTalk took over my broadband package.
On 27 February 2025, two EE salespeople came to my address and told me that my full-copper ADSL setup was on borrowed time, and they ordered EE Full Fibre 500 broadband for me. An openreach engineer finished installing Fibre to the Premises (FTTP) broadband at my address on 29 April 2025, and the FTTP service was up and running. EE informed me on 30 April 2025 of my first bill, which will be taken by direct debit on 8 May 2025. That's all great.
What I'm wondering about is what I should do about my old direct debits, as I don't want to be charged by TalkTalk anymore. Do I have to contact TalkTalk to cancel my previous copper broadband? I thought EE would cancel TalkTalk themselves, but my TalkTalk account online is still listing my broadband package with them. Or should I perhaps cancel my direct debit with TalkTalk, as I've always paid TalkTalk in advance in the past (i.e. whenever I pay them, it's for the NEXT month's service).
With my analogue copper landline, run by BT, it's a little different, as I've always paid them in arrears (i.e. whenever I pay them, it's for the PREVIOUS 3 months' service), so I will have to have final bills after I cancel with them.
Thanks in advance for any advice that you can give on this.

@Primord When you signed up with EE for the broadband change over, they should have inform Talk Talk that they were taking over the complete service from them your BB and the Landline, TT should have sent you an e-mail so you Knew that this was all going to go as planned, on the activation date EE go live, let TT know ok we got them now, TT do the Final bill for your, EE start billing. The TT final bill takes circa 6-8 weeks to sort out, just depending on where/when the billing happens between them both you MAY get hit by both, TT should be a one time only as it is done and dusted, the TT calculated overspend what ever it is BB/Landline/Call packages etc is now All returned to you, this you DO need to look at on the TT site to make sure there rules/regs when leaving and that they ARE going to send that back to you and HOW, it is normally a refund into your DD via your bank.
Things go wrong so you HAVE to keep looking to make sure double billing is not going on, so the easiest and quickest way call TT and ask are you aware that i NO longer have BB or Landline with you it is ALL with EE now, the response from them will let you know what to do instantly. HTH
If you have a BT line, still with a phone service, you wish to not mess with it then decision is up to you, if it is NOT working for sure BT have cut it off.... So that is another keep eye on and maybe another call..
EE Fibre ONE payment nothing else and all through DD, activation date is the billing date, money taken 7-8 day's later...

Thanks JimM11,
I got in touch with TalkTalk on facebook today, and they told me that my service with them was still live, as EE hadn't told them about my switch. I then had to call the TalkTalk cancellation team, and after some talk, the man told me that my TT account will be closed down on 2 June 2025, after 30 days notice. I'll do the same with BT next week, to end my analogue phone line to avoid paying any more line rental fees, as I don't use the landline enough anymore to justify the fees.

@Primord Things happen and the OTS (one touch switch) just falls down, if you did it via EE call them up, do not pay twice if it is not your fault.... The BT/EE Phone you are already on the call double hit once one is over....

@JimM11What do you mean by your last sentence there? My understanding is that as I now have EE Full Fibre (FTTP) broadband (without phone), I don't need my BT analogue copper landline anymore. It was different while I still had ADSL broadband with TalkTalk, as copper to the premises requires a landline in order to function.

@Primord Correct, there was a legacy with TT that they would/would not do the phone, BT and EE with the BT Group, EE have the Broadband and They also give you the Landline Phone now Digital DV, so you want a landline phone then you can addon with EE, do not want then just make sure BT cancel it for you...
Did you have a separate bill, TT for the BB, and BT for a Line rental, calls also if you had a phone, it is just which way you go.
EE if they stuffed up the switch can offer £30 no questions asked refund so can take care off the OTS error, would NOT be your problem.

@JimM11 Yes, I did have separate bills, i.e. my broadband with TalkTalk and my landline with BT. My copper broadband subscription began all the way back in 2007, when it was actually AOL Broadband who were my ISP at the time. As far as I'm aware, AOL Broadband never did line rentals or ran landlines, and were just internet service providers. TalkTalk took over AOL Broadband in 2014. It was around 2016 when the British government made it law that any NEW broadband deals had to have broadband and line rental together in the same package, but older deals could carry on being separate indefinitely.
Thanks 🙂

@Primord Got it, just so you know, have not paid a line rental in 10 years now.
