2 week review of EE 1.6gbs

Having been on the new 1.6gb/s service now for 2 weeks, and here are my views,

i have the EE new smart router plus and 3 extenders, first off i know the EE smart hub plus only has 1gb LAN ports, speeds have been ok and stable WIFI rangers from about 650-820  what is not bad, i m running with them hardwired with a lan to them, i know WiFi 6 max speeds are 1200 but rarely get them in the real world

this package feels like it been rushed out, my reason for saying this are,  openreach engineers laptops have 1gb Ethernet ports so they are unable to check speeds from ONT or any other Speedtest at your home if you are on the 1.6gbs package

the EE router having only 1gb LAN, also it comes with a cat 5e cable, this cat of cable does up to 1gb, so if you are on 1.6gb/s you will need to get a new Ethernet lead to connected the smart hub plus to the ONT

all the WiFi features like work and game mode and WiFi controls dont work, it say page not found, i have heard that the WiFi enhanced feature has been turn off so the team can look at it and fix it as it affecting a lot of users and should be back after a month, i am unable to check speed via the router page this time it asking for me to make an EE account

speeds and connection has been stable and good, but i did have a lot of issues getting the service

i know of people who have bought a 3rd party router so they can get full access to the raw 1.6gbs speeds, and they are having no issues on speeds as router has 2.5gb LAN on them unlike the EE smart hub plus

i have bought a usbc to 2.5gb Ethernet adapter so i can test the raw speeds at the ONT, plus if openreach do need to test speeds at my home they will be able too

so in short i hope you can see why i think this package has been rushed out from the fact openreach dont have the kit to test speeds at the customer home, to all the issues with the new smart hub plus

Ok I just had a phone call  from  another contact in the next gen team, what I been told is there is now an interested party form they now got also they was told this morning before work 24-48 hours in regards to the pro router, seems things moving also slowly but sound like there is some movement on this

still waiting on openreach but the next gen person I spoke said I’m probably right and it is the router

As expected a replacement router required as I said from the start with ee 1-2 days for it what I not pleased as we know it could be sent today for tomorrow.

Hi David, it's Brett in Executive Complaints from EE. . I have found out that the WIFI 7 teams are very busy trying to build in the process so existing customers can have the new router so we just need to sit tight for the next few days and see what comes of that. As soon as we can we can order that service for you. I'll ring you tomorrow to see what the outcome of your visit today was.  Thanks.

the above is the latest update I have got about half hour ago

Similar response from the exec team to mine.

"I hope you're well.

I've had correspondence that the team who you spoke with on Tuesday have registered your interest to send out the Smart Hub Pro once they've built in the process.

They'll be in touch directly once they can do this.

Because this is now in place, are you happy for me to close your case that I've opened with your request being with the right team?

I look forward to your response."

It's  not exactly a confirmation we'll get the routers sent out, just that our interest has been registered.

I just do not understand how a organization the size of EE can launch a new product with zero process in place for customers to get one. It is absolute madness and explains a lot about broadband in this country

There's a couple of reasons...

They're focussed on attraction not retention, they've got us tied into contracts already so why bother prioritising us?

Their CEO said they would be the first to bundle Wi-Fi 7 but were pipped to the post by another ISP so they had to rush it out the door. Technically they are the first to offer it bundled in to the busiest home and gaming packages as the other ISP  charge £10 for it a month regardless of package. (desperately trying to recall who it is!).

That's who I was thinking of!

Just reinforces my thought that they rushed it out the door and by a hair's breadth they won the WiFi 7 race.
