I have 300 mbps ee fibre and get around 290 on 5ghz devices over wifi, but 2.4ghz is between 10 - 20mbps download with 60mbps upload.
I have 2 pc, a samsung phone and smart plugs on the 2.4ghz.
EE sent a new router, but still no change.
Would adding a mesh set up improve the 2.4ghz speed?
Any ideas where I should look?
Thanks in advance.

@RBAILEY So you know, not EE CS here, user like yourself just trying to help, Its not apples to apples, from sky to EE, this is the equivalent of the SKY Max system, see how much sky customers complain about that. But if you need help, just post and tag me. EE Router does need a little more work done on it, but it's really not that bad. 👍

@RBAILEY not sure what you are expecting, but you will never get the same speeds on 2.4 channels. Much will depend on the capabilities and how your devices negotiate speed with the router. The following guide from Wiki shows the different standards over the years - seems your older 2.4 kit is as expected connected at lower speeds.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IEEE_802.11
At the end of the day. WiFi is a compromise, anything you want faster speeds from should be WiFi6 to match the router capabilities and be close to the router, or better connected via ethernet. Other stuff that does not need speed can be further away and use the 2.4 older WiFi 3/4 standards.

I guess i didnt realise how performance can differ so much with different routers. I can route some ethernet cables to computers, but the main problem i have is the lack of range on 2.4 with smart plugs being in the garden, maybe I got spoilt with skys range. I dont have a land line so I'm tempted with a tp-link ac1200, at £32 its worth a try. Cheers

It turns out moving my hive hub away from yhe router increased the range significantly. The speed on 2.4 is still around 20mbps, but i can live with that.
Thanks to all for your help
