Hi having ongoing problems with wifi, while they are fixing issues they have increased my 4g data on mobiles to enable use of devices like laptop, tv etc. My kids have xboxs and tell me they cant use hotspot on them? are they doing something wrong or are they not able to? EE are sending out a 4g mobile wifi router to use are wondering if that would be better for using on xbox or same issues?
thanks

If your phone in range of the xbox? is it picking it up? a phones hotspot will not work 1 floor up for example, it's designed to be low power so used within a few feet of the phone

You may be finding yourself up against a limitation of EE's mobile network. The EE mobile network uses Carrier Grade NAT (CGNAT) resulting in a double NAT, which xBoxes object to as well as you don't get your own public IP address but share it with other users. So you can't be uniquely id'ed on the Net & therefore your LAN cannot be addressed from outside for unsolicited accesses. This is unlike fixed BB.
If this occurs there is nowt you can do to avoid it.
It will be the same with a mobile router.

It is very likely as @XRaySpeX mentioned with the CGNAT situation - if the Xbox is connected to your mobile hotspot, you should be able to run a connection test in the settings for the xbox and that should be able to tell you what NAT type you're running.

Not very good at xbox but had a look….connected to hotspot and checked NAT type and this came up
