iphone 6s

Hi all, my son has a iphone 6s - downloaded WhatsApp on it for him however WhatsApp works fine when in the house and on wifi however when he's out the house and on mobile data - won't let him send messages etc.  They only come through on whatapp when he gets home.

 

we currently put a £5 pack on his phone, so he gets so many minutes free and text messages.  

 

checked his phone yesterday and he had £0.15 credit left along with 248 minutes and 249 free texts.  Texts work fine but whatsapp wouldn't work when out the house.  He's only 11 .....i understand that they are due to remove whatsapp from some mobiles the iphone 6s being one of them - is this why it doesn't work?  Or is there something else we aren't going.....not sure if to get him a different mobile or its us/settings?

a-ha this could be the answer, i've lost track of his data useage as my husband borrowed sons mobile.  Thank you so much for your help!
