Upgraded to pay monthly from pay as you go

I have just received my new pay monthly phone today from being a pay as you go customer with EE. When inputting all the information to move to pay monthly I asked for my pay as you go number to be transferred to my pay monthly. This says on the website it’s instant but I have received a completely different number with my phone than my own one. How do I get my old number transferred on my new phone? I have tried to call but have been on hold for a very long time and I don’t want to be having to carry around two phones.

@Jodys92   EE can not send you a sim with your number on it as you can not have 2 sims with the same number.  It’s not Instant to move in number to a new sim as it can take up to 24 hours.   Keep trying customer services but you need to be patient because they are working with social distancing so there’s less of them to take calls.   Just be patient when calling.
