So I traded in my android phone, sent it off last Thursday. Apparently according to my tracking info 'royal mail have it'

I got a text from Ee earlier saying I would be charged £165 for not returning my phone. I sent it 8 days ago now. I certainly can't afford being charged that at this time of year during this year of all years!

What should I do next? I'm panicking quite a lot!

Did you send it by trackable post?

Certainly did but all it says is 'royal mail have your parcel'

OK in that case get onto Royal Mail tomorrow morning and tell them the tracking number.  Post is slower at this time of year but 8 days is too long really.  If it was 'Special Delivery' you can claim for up to £500 but the PO will want to try and find it first.  If it was the 'Signed For' service the tracking info is not as good but does confirm delivery and date.

Still not got the other end as yet, it appears I'm going to be charged £165 due to non return, not that I can really afford being charged that right now 🙁
