Hi i have a sim only 24 month contract which I purchased for my daughter last christmas and used a student code to get 20% off the monthly price. I am now able to upgrade and wanted to upgrade to a phone and sim contract which will be a christmas present for the same daughter.
My first question is:
Can I upgrade but not start it until Christmas day (I don't want my daughter to know or have the new phone/sim until christmas day) but she has the original contract sim in her phone. If I take out an upgrade before Christmas will she get cut off? I really want to give it to her on christmas day but don't know how to go about it as she has the original contract sim in her phone. Any ideas or is this even possible? Hope this makes sense.
Second question, can I still use a student discount code on an upgrade?

As long as you do an upgrade, not a new contract, her existing SIM will continue working & can be transferred to the new phone if it fits at the appropriate time.

Hi @deyes999
Q1 - No you cannot upgrade now for a future date. If you upgrade then her contract will change and she will receive the upgrade text messages. Alternatively you can upgrade in December just before Christmas.
Q2 - like original code I believe your daughter would need to obtain a new one
Thanks

Yes, I meant you could do the upgrade now with the contract starting now but you would give her the handset on Xmas.

Thanks for your answers. If I upgrade I will have to upgrade to a new handset and sim, so does that mean she will get texts about it on the original sim?

Hi there @deyes999
What a lovely gift for Christmas 🙂
If you speak to our Mobile Care team on 150, they will see if they can make sure no messages go to her number about the upgrade 🙂

Without knowing what options a C/S agent will have to suppress these messages, and I'm sure this isn't what @deyes999 intentions are, this is also effectively asking "how can I change someone's account without them knowing" which I'd imagine is a fraudster's field day.
I seem to recall this being asked previously and the messages couldn't be prevented.

Hi @bristolian
You are correct, the account holder would need to request this, if this is on the customer's account. The team will certainly check what can be done 🙂
Thanks for the pointing this out, it's much appreciated.
Leanne.
