Why is my PAYG sim showing as "unregistered sim" on the screen?
There is lots of credit on it.

"Does the SIM work in another phone?"
Don't know - I don't have another phone to try it in.
"When was it last used? iirc, "
I can't remember when it was last used as I kept it in the car for emergencies.
"if SIMS aren't used on PAYG for 6 months it gets kicked off/de-registered from the network. "
But it has credit on it (my money!!!).
How do I get it re-registered?

Hi @Userxxxzzz
Thanks for coming back to us.
If you get in touch with our Pay as you go Care team from another phone on 0800 079 8586, they will be able to check your account for you and see if the SIM is in hibernation and let you know what they can do to help 🙂
Thanks 🙂
Leanne.

Just on this point, you can read EE's hibernation policy here

I phoned the PAYG Care team on 0800 079 8586 and spoke to a lady who;
1. Registered me on the system.
2. Re-activated the sim/phone-number.
3. Re-instated the old credit balance on the sim/phone-number.
She then said it should all be fine and work now.
But the phone still said 'unregistered sim' - she said to try restarting it.
I restarted the phone and now it said 'inactive sim' - calls/texts failing.
The lady told me to hold on while she rechecked then said everything looks ok and it should be working.
She asked about the phone I am using then said it isn't in her system and asked if I can try the sim in another more modern phone.
Later I tried it in an unlocked Android phone and it just came up 'No Service' and if I try making a call it pops up 'Mobile Network not available'.
If I call the sim it says "The mobile phone you called is switched off please try again later".
Previously before I called PAYG Care Team it was saying something like "The mobile number you have called is not accepting calls".
Whats going on now?

That phone is locked to O2 & hence won't accept an EE SIM. Lyramobile is an MVNO that piggybacks on O2. You will need to contact O2 to get it unlocked. They should be able to confirm that it's 1 of theirs.

Sorry I think you misunderstood.
The original phone this sim was is was an old GSM 900/1800 phone.
It was this phone we tested with a Lycamobile sim.
After I spoke with PAYG Care Team I tried the EE sim in an Android phone which is unlocked - has been used on O2 & Vodafone.
If it was locked and you put a different network sim in it wouldn't it refuse to go into Android system with message like sim/network lock?

Sorry, what phone in which this EE SIM won't work is this thread all about? I thought it was the LG.

Yes original phone was an old LG.
After Care Team said sim is Re-activated and credit Reinstated the LG phone was showing 'inactive sim'.
Care Team asked to to try in a modern phone.
Then I tried the sim in Sony Xperia Android phone (modern phone) where it says 'No Signal' (the signal strength icon is blank).
When try to make call it says 'Mobile Network not available'

It still means the LG is locked to O2.
Immediately after you announced the phone concerned was the LG GSM type phone you said:

My friends Lycamobile SIM works in it.
In the middle of the screen it says "O2" and at the bottom "LYCAMOBILE"
It may very well be that you have 2 problems contributing to your issue:
