I have a Nokia C2, and have just arranged a new contract. A new sim has been received, but it won't work. Phone doesn't even switch on properly, doesn't find network, in fact screen lights then goes off, no words, no pictures, absolutely nothing. Put the old sim back in - works fine.
What do I do now?

As the old SIM works, use it! It has your new plan on it. You've no need to bother with the new SIM. It was only sent to you in case old SIM didn't fit.

But I was told by EE NOT to use it?

I haven't replaced the phone, am still using the C2. The problem was the old contract which has been replaced.
Last year I arranged to have two dongles, one with minimum access, one with maximum access (can't think how better to describe it). The minimum access had been in use before. The maximum access was new. The shop seems to have inadvertently muddled the three numbers (my mobile, and the two dongles). Ended up with my mobile account being charged too much. Hence I believe I was told to use the new sim not the one in my mobile phone. Sorry if this doesn't make sense, but it is all very confused.
As the two dongles are no longer required I have cancelled both.
Meanwhile I have a mobile phone which won't work.
Think I will simply have to phone from the landline to get help direct.

Yes, it will! Just by using the old SIM. It has everything necessary on it. But if you want to waste a long phone call so be it!

Spoke to Technical this afternoon. There is clearly a problem which doesn't appear to have a solution. They are sending out a new SIM card which could take a week. The old sim has now been cancelled completely, So if this replacement card works, fine, if not ... Meantime I have no mobile phone at all. So texts from doctor, vet, food service etc cannot be received.
Not happy.
